Something to think and make sure to do something about –

A new reading from Vulture “How to Be an Artist”, 33 rules to take you from clueless amateur to generational talent (or at least help you live life a little more creatively). November 28, 2018, Jerry Saltz

"Art is for anyone. It’s just not for everyone. I know this viscerally, as a would-be artist who burned out. I wrote about that last year, and ever since, I’ve been beset — every lecture I give, every gallery I pop my head into, somebody is asking me for advice. What they’re really asking is “How can I be an artist?”

Last's night choice was Cheddar's on North Dale Mabry in Tampa.  Cheddar's falls under the category of "Franchised".

Please be advised that this is our own taste opinion.

Stage 1 of the quilting is to outline all Cranes.

Last 4 Cranes Quilts are created with Sew Batik fabrics that will fit each one into at least one of the 6 color Sets.

Did you ever notice that there is a method to the direction that our Cranes on any specific Cranes Quilt may be facing?

There is a recent quiet hoopla regarding the publication of articles stating, “that there may be a possibility of mtDNA being passed from the paternal parent to his offspring”.

Medical Xpress, November 27, 2018 by Bob Yirka “Researchers find rare instances of male mtDNA being passed on to offspring

The key words in the heading are “rare instances”. And further there are only 17 cases of people with mtDNA from both parents, and the focus was with respect of “experiencing maladies traced to mitochondrial mutations”.

“The researchers suggest it is likely that some males carry genetic mutations that prevent their mtDNA from being destroyed, thus allowing it to allow remain active in the mitochondria of their offspring, along with the maternal mtDNA. They suggest further that their findings might prove useful in combating some types of mitochondrial ailments.”

It is not time to jump on a band wagon and believe that ancestry and genealogy can now provide extra information regarding historical connections. The study is small, and it is concentrated upon certain ailments.

And yes, this does not have anything to do with lederhosen or kilts.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

“Mussolini viewed propaganda as a key means to win support from the Italian people. The poster here has the Italian words for "to us" written at the bottom, promoting a unified and strong Italy.”

Reading this morning –

From Medium.com dated Sep 6, 2018 – “Why You Shouldn’t Upgrade Your Camera” by Kirk Mastin https://medium.com/photo-dojo/why-you-shouldnt-upgrade-your-camera-de296679446e

“Collect art and photo books. Your best work comes from synthesizing information from your life experiences as well as the art you consume to feed your creative soul. I believe that if you don’t study what has already been done, you are doomed to repeat work that already exists at a very mediocre level. Your art will only ever rise to your level of taste, so study the greats that have come before you. Vincent Van Gogh copied famous impressionist paintings, stroke for stroke, to understand how his contemporaries painted. Once he understood impressionism, he could break the rules and find his voice. It’s no different for photographers.”

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

Quilting is done on the "almost" last Cranes Quilt of the Blue Set. The quilting on this Cranes Quilt was completed free-motion on our Janome 6600.

6 does not divide evenly into 40 evenly, so Andy and I will be creating the last 4 Cranes Quilts with batik fabric colors that are unique but will fit into one or more of the 6 color sets.

Answers -

1. Yes, there are holes in some of our Crane Quilts.

2. Our reasoning for the holes is...

3. Our Crane blocks are composed of 4 different sizes: 3"; 4"; 5"; and 6".

4. Yes, the Crane blocks are not paper-pieced.

5. The Cranes Spectrum quilts are all composed of lots of different batik shades of the 3 primary and 3 secondary colors.

Our Orenda Coffee Machine Saga update -

After waiting approximately 1 year and 1/2 years from Kickstarter payment to delivery, and

after finding out that the printed head office address is a non-existent flash in the pan, and

after initially dealing with some fembots in the company’s customer service department, and

after discovering an extremely low BBB rating, and

after reading the numerous of unsatisfied comments directed at the company, and

after struggling to get the confounded Orenda iPhone application to work, and

after swearing at the machine and realizing that I may have to completely write-off the cost of the machine, and

after losing accessibility to create a cup of coffee, and

after having to create several bogus IDs to get the machine going again, and

after searching online to figure out how to clean the machine, and

after learning how to tweak the makings of a good cup of coffee, and

after 89 cups of coffee, now at $4.88, and

after realizing that the Orenda Coffee machine makes a bloody damn good cup of coffee, and

after knowing that there are only 346 cups of coffee to make, and then the cost of a cup of coffee will only be the cost of the beans, and

after having learned all the idiosyncrasies of using the machine,

I can honestly say, that the Orenda Coffee Machine is one hell of an excellent coffee machine.
