Day 34 - (AD 464) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.1 Miles – On The Road Again in Victoria On My New Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I adjusted the seat on my new Schwinn 170. Much better. A few more adjustments as the time progresses, I believe, will eventually make it much better butt-wise. I also cycled 21.1 miles and burned up 620 calories. Total Jim’s Trek miles to date equal 9,343.5, 15,036.9 kilometers.

Today I am located on Nerowie Road just east of Geelong-Bacchus March Road. I am still in Victoria, Australia. I am headed in a northwesterly direction.

My fat percentage, since March 13, was up this morning to 20.4%, an addition of 0.7%. Must have been JK’s birthday cake coupled with the late night Spinach and Cheese Calzone I had yesterday. On a reverse note my blood sugar was down by 8 to 93. And that could be that I didn’t gorge myself all day yesterday.

I got started late on my cycling this morning. I had to deal with a minor bank crisis. It appears that in some way on my electronic banking system, the method of transferring funds was changed without my acknowledgment and after I have been doing it the same way for at least 15 plus years. The bank representative tried to explain to me that the change was “due to something that I had done…” Guess what? I think I understand ACH and electronic movement of money.  A financial and banking career took care of that.  Now I can agree that electronic methodologies are changing exponentially BUT don’t try and tell me that I was the one at fault when something changed that I would and should not have had any control in manipulating. I got the issue resolved…after using two online chats and one telephone lines all happening simultaneously while I attempted to keep my blood pressure at a norm for a period of one hour.

A series of earthquakes on Fringe elicits the possibility of the intersection of two universes. Now if the occupants of any building in Los Angeles have most recently come out somewhat strange after the recent tremors, you may have to wonder. But then again it is L.A.

This morning I had a virus attack, stopped by my Norton Internet Security and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. I’ve never seen this type of attack before. It seemed to come in through the Google Cloud and it was vicious. Six high security risk items: Suspicious.Cloud.7s.

Day 33 - (AD 463) – Jim's Trek Part III – 22.2 Miles – Goal #3 Melbourne, On My New Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Well this is the day that I begin and continue my Trek on my new Schwinn 170. Here goes.

Today I reached the third of my 16 goals of destination points in Australia. Destination #3 means that all totalled I have now cycled 9,310.2 miles, 14,983.3 kilometers, including my North American Trek. Jim's Trek III started in Sydney, targeted Canberra, and now I reached Melbourne. On to number four.

But I couldn’t just stop there. This morning I cycled a total of 22.2 miles taking my grand total miles now 9,322.4 or 15,003.0 kilometers. I burned 600 calories on my new Schwinn 170.

After completing my cycling and an additional 100 sit-ups my weight is at 166.7 pounds and my fat registered at 19.7%. My goal is to somehow, without a scalpel or hooking up to a vacuum cleaner; get to 17.0% or less. I would like to get to somewhere in that vicinity.

I am currently on Dohertys Road and I am west of Melbourne.  I am coming up on the intersection at Palmers Road.

Report on my new Schwinn 170 after my first 22.2 miles.

  • Extremely easy to assemble. It took about 3 hours with four hands.
  • There are a number more buttons and push-thing-a-migs that I need to learn and find out what they do. I have to figure out it whether the degree of resistance can be increased or decreased simply by one degree.
  • I had to adjust the handlebars. Not a problem while I was cycling. I will try to figure out my comfort level and degree of angle.
  • The Schwinn 170 seat is definitely much more comfortable than the one on the Schwinn 150. I will have to adjust the seat for my next ride.
  • The Schwinn 170's built-in fan is definitely much better than the one on the Schwinn 150.
  • While pedaling I hit my left ankle on the mechanism only once. I believe I was positioned way too close. Otherwise not an issue.

My viewing companion this morning was Fringe. The last two episodes introduce some extraordinary issues and the two can stand alone. I am trying to figure out whether there were any clues to the overall multi-dimensional theme of the series. Who knows?

Our H-1 quilt and wall hanging has been bound and the final production is a wonder to see. Andy has done a great job of quilting and binding. The slip on Warhol’s Itch is being added. It should provide a subtle dimension to the completion of the quilt and wall hanging. The last quilting is been completed on our extra large Tampa Kaleidoscope quilt. The drafting of the perspective lines of are new H-2 quilt and wall hanging is certainly a new challenge.

Check out the video: Lauren Austin – art quilter in Shanghai. I really like her approach and her work. The YouTube link is http://youtu.be/vn6D-UDOqJ8.

Day 32 ½ - (AD 462 ½) – Jim's Trek Part III – 0.0 Miles – My New Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Whew. Finished. Today I decided not to cycle on my Schwinn 150. I decided that I would put together my brand new Schwinn 170. Thank you Nautilus.

Due to Jim’s Trek and my cycling exercise of 9,300.2 miles on my Schwinn 150 I am a proud owner of a new Schwinn 170. Once again thank you Nautilus, Inc. This 62 year old man thanks you.

The box is now empty and I, with an extra set of hands, have reconstructed all parts and positioned my new Schwinn 170. It took me somewhere about 3 hours to put it together. I definitely needed some assistance. Thank you, AB. I still have some minor adjustments to make.

Tomorrow I will begin the next part of my Trek, Jim’s Trek III-170 on my Schwinn 170.

Day 32 - (AD 462) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.0 Miles – Oakleigh, Victoria, Australia on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

Jim’s Trek Pageviews have topped 34,008.  And this morning I cycled another 21.0 miles on my Schwinn 150.

I am now located in Oakleigh, another suburb of Melbourne, Victoria. Population is about 7,600 and Oakleigh, from what I have read, was absorbed into the metropolis of Melbourne in the 1950s. I am on Princes Highway or National Route Alternate 1. It looks like I may be able to stop for a check up on the left. I wonder if they’ll check my Schwinn 150?

I am now only 10.0 miles from my next chosen destination goal. And my blood sugar count this morning is 99. I have been diabetes meds free for a total of 253 days.

An interesting article on BloombergBusinessweek by Dune Lawrence this morning. The article is How Scammers Turn Google Maps Into Fantasy Land. Does this affect my virtual Jim’s Trek? Possibly.  But my Trek has the real part, the exercise on my Schwinn 150 and I can definitely see the results.

And Governor Rick Scott, in Tampa today, needs to learn how to spin his supposed results when he is taking credit for job growth. If “state economists have said a big reason for the unemployment rate decline is that people are leaving the labor force or had delayed their search.” (TBO/The Tampa Tribune – AP, March 28, 2014.) Bossman Governor needs to learn how to read and include all the jobless numbers.

Spin, spin, spin. From Forbes, The Death of ‘Spin’ (Will It Kill The Future of Public Relations?), Cheryl Connor, February 13, 2014 “Political Spin: Politicians Abducting Citizens. There are too many examples in this category to number. Broken rules. Broken laws. Dishonest representations. Disillusioned readers and voters pay the terrible cost.

Our new quilt and wall hanging H-1 quilting has been completed. The binding is now being attached. It truly is an amazing work. Drafts of the design for our new H-2 are being completed.

Day 31 - (AD 461) – Jim's Trek Part III – 20.7 Miles – Victoria, Australia on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

This morning I cycled 20.1 miles on my Schwinn 150. This is now my 461st day of almost continual cycling. Yes it is now a habit and a part of my daily routine. And I can honestly say that I just feel better after I have completed my cycling exercise.

I was just asked as to "why hadn't I lost more weight than 4 pounds?" I started cycling at 170.8 pounds on December 2, 2012 and this morning on March 27, 2014 I weighed in at 166.8. My immediate response is that I still love to eat... I haven't changed my diet nor have I starved myself but I do watch, because of my diabetes, what I eat and my portion sizes.  This I was doing years before I started my cycling routine. But my personal results have proven the many, many benefits of me cycling on my Schwinn 150. And a lost of 12" on my waist certainly is justifiable proof.

I am located on Princes Highway just west of Officer, Victoria. Officer has a population of about 1,800 and is a suburb of Melbourne. I am now only 31.0 miles to my next goal.

Fact - A conjoined bearded dragon hatched here in Officer, Australia in January 2011!

And talking about food I just read that McDonalds does serve lobster rolls. Note that the March 18th article from the Mirror News in the UK uses the term "Maccy D's"
Cheap in Canada: Lobster at Maccy D's

We’ve all had a Big Mac or a chicken McNugget, but how many people get the chance to sample one of Ronald McDonald’s lobster rolls? Only available in places like Canada, where lobster is plentiful and cheap, the fast-food giant promises: “100% Atlantic Lobster meat is what this classic is all about. "It’s the perfect combination of diced celery, light salad dressing and shredded lettuce all on a soft roll. You’ll miss it when it’s gone, so catch it while summer’s here.”
If this is the case could someone please ship me a case?

And thank you to Luke Haynes for taking the photo of some of the quilts and wall hangings currently on display at the Rocky Mountain Quilt Museum in Golden, Colorado.

Luke's Madame X is on the right and Andy and my Cosmo's Moon is hanging on the left.

Day 30 - (AD 460) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.1 Miles – Back on Princes Highway, Victoria, Australia on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

And today is JK’s birthday. Happy birthday.

Well I ran a number of errands this morning and met with some friends. I figured I would take today off from cycling. But it turns out that I had a couple of hours before my next appointment…and my Schwinn 150 was calling me. Damn. I think I am hooked, I truly am. I figured out that I had a slot of time and I got on my bike. I cycled another 21.1 miles on my Schwinn 150.

My total miles in Australia have reached the 1,032.2 total. My grand total now is 9,258.5 miles, 14,900.1 kilometers.

I am now located just west of Longwarry North in Victoria. I am on Princes Highway/Freeway.

I’m still keeping myself off of my diabetes medications. My fasting blood sugar count this morning was 96; my Australian average 94.4. Not bad for reversing Stage II Diabetes.

I began the design draft of our H-2 quilt and wall hanging. This one should prove very, very interesting.

Short and sweet.  Schwinn 170 coming soon.

Day 29 - (AD 459) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.5 Miles – Old Sale Road, Victoria, Australia on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

Today I cycled 21.5 miles on my Schwinn 150. I am still keeping up with my daily routine after cycling of trying to crunch 100 sit-ups. I now have 762.6 miles or about 38 or 39 days until I hit the 10,000 mile mark. Dang, that would mean that I might hit that mark on about May 2nd. That is 17 months of cycling…

I measured my waist and my belly this morning. It appears that I am still holding at 32 and 34 inches. My fat percentage registered at 19.8%. I really wonder if I can, without resorting to a surgical procedure or a girdle, get rid of my older man’s gut. Maybe as I do live in Florida I should start reading Ponce de Leon’s journals.

This morning I turned off to the left from Willow Grove Road on to Old Sale Road. It appears that the Google camera truck hasn’t been down this section of Old Sale Road. It looks like the images begin again where Old Sale Road meets Yarragon-Shady Creek Road just up ahead. I have now just 73.1 miles or about 118 kilometers to my next goal point in Victoria, Australia.

Yes we, as a race of human beings, use social media at an exponentially increasing rate. And I have two questions and two statements.

First question – What is around the corner in the way of the ever expanding network of communication?

Second question – If there are any other beings, somewhere out there, have they tapped into our social media madness?

First Statement – As I grow older the increasing speed of electronics seems to be leaving me behind, even as I want to keep up.

Second Statement – It is apparent that social media, in an effort to expand our intelligence, may be increasingly being used to pull the wool over our eyes.

The quilting work on our new H-1 quilt and wall hanging is progressing terrifically. Andy and I do love the way the variegated Sulky thread just pops and compliments the cotton fabric. Twenty-one squares of 120 squares completed for our new MC-1 afghan.

Day 28 - (AD 458) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.0 Miles – Another Goal: 9,200 Miles on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

This morning I have now cycled 9,215.9 miles, 14,831.6 kilometers on my Schwinn 150. Today I cycled another 21.0 miles. I have now, since December 2, 2012, cycled 458 days. I have not cycled during this period a total of 19 days. That’s the real part of my journey.

And now for the virtual part, I am located on Brown Coalmine Road and I am almost 95.0 miles from my next targeted destination. Yes, I am in Victoria and from the Google Maps image the sky looks somewhat similar to what it is right now here in Tampa. To date I have cycled 963.7 miles or about 1,550 kilometers on my Trek in Australia.

The amaryllises are definitely blooming around my house. I am still wondering if I fell asleep for a complete year.

Here’s something to consider. If there are 31 verses in the Bible that can be construed so that the message may mean that watching TV may be considered a sin, does it mean that a person may be damned for owning an electronic device with video capabilities? And the majority of the Bible quotes are from the New Testament.

And I continue to cycle on my Schwinn 150 and watch Fringe. I know that I am using the television series as a riding companion, but I was wondering at the value of two-dimensional versus multidimensional relationships.

Day 27 - (AD 457) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.2 Miles – Cowwarr Art Space on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

This morning my miles totaled 9,194.9 or 14,797.8 kilometers. I cycled on my Schwinn 150 21.2 miles.

I am now located, still in Victoria, Toogabbie-Cowwar and Traralgon-Maffra Roads. I will never ever complain about road names again… (And I have not yet been to Wales, Steve.) I am just past a location on the map called Cowwarr Art Space. This is neat. According to the Cowwarr Art Space website this is a “private enterprise owned by Carolyn Crossley and Sculptor Clive Murray-White.

And here comes the next point of synchronicity. My Great-Grandmother Mary Alice Goodey was a Crossley. Her parents, my great-grandparents were William and Elizabeth (née Parker) Crossley. They were from Lancashire in England. Who knows? The listing of my Crossley ancestors can be seen at A Genealogy Hunt.

Allergies be damned. I can’t wait until tomorrow when it rains to wash the bloody pollen out of my hair. (I sound like I may be channeling from Oscar Hammerstein II.)

Have you ever dreamed a dream (and now from Claude-Michel Schönberg) where you decide that what you are doing in your dream you can substitute for something you do in real life when you wake up? I was walking in my dream last night, and I felt that I could just substitute the distance for the possible cycling that I would be doing the next morning.

Okay, okay it must be the allergies, and I forgot to take my early morning blood sugar count. Oh well. But I just took it two hours after I drank my orange juice and it registered at 95. Not bad.

And the Schwinn 170 jigsaw puzzle begins. The foot-bone is connected to the ankle-bone, the ankle-bone is connected to the shin-bone, the shin-bone is connected to the knee-bone. The knee-bone is connected to the thigh-bone, the thigh-bone to the hip-bone…and the hip-bone to my butt. My butt will be connected to 1.1.

Day 26 - (AD 456) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.6 Miles – Maffra, Victoria on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

And this morning I struggled on my Schwinn 150. It just felt like I wasn’t getting anywhere, that is, in the cycling motion. I did finish 21.6 miles but to just burn 600 calories it took me 1 hour and 12 minutes.

I mentioned yesterday that I was headed west to the Town of Maffra. And guess where I got to this morning? Maffra. I am located on Johnson Street. It does look like I will have to cycle another 137 miles, about 220 kilometers. I should be getting to my next destination and Trek goal in about six or seven days.

And finally the congestion in my lungs seems to be breaking up. I can honestly say that my cycling time on my Schwinn 150 has most definitely been a benefit. It appears that the benefits have reduced the length of time that I may have had to deal with a cold or an ache.

My blood sugar this morning dropped another 2 points to 97.

Last night’s supper was an experiment. I didn’t have the Cornish Hens but I figured that I could substitute a boneless, skinless chicken breast. And it worked, Hainanese (pronounced Hey-nan-ease) Chicken Rice. I found the recipe at Footnetwork.com. I truly enjoyed the meal with a Kale Salad. Oh and I made the three sauces: Sweet Soya Sauce; Sriracha Broth; and Ginger Broth. The chicken is a toasted Jasmine Rice with ginger and garlic. Of course the final plate looked somewhat blank without any added fluff but the subtle flavors and exquisite tastes would definitely have me doing this again. I would most definitely do this again. Convinced?

I am continuing my reading of The 4400 Welcome to Promise City, Walking in This World, and Pass Key to the LSAT. I am now searching for my “catcher’s mitt”.  Thank you Julia Cameron.

Another point of synchronicity on my Schwinn 150. Today while watching the first episode of the 2nd Season of Fringe there is a mention of shape shifting. I almost fell off. For the past year plus I have been researching and writing notes about the possibility of a work about a shape shifter. Intro the opening bars of the Twilight Zone.

Work continues on our new H-1 quilt and wall hanging. The quilting is amazing and Andy is working meticulously at hiding the ends. I just snapped a couple of images of the back that just show our work. Check out our work at Quilts SB - http://quiltsb.blogspot.com/

Day 25 - (AD 455) – Jim's Trek Part III – 20.8 Miles – Still Headed West on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

This morning, another 20.8 miles on my Schwinn 150 cycled. Total now 9,152.1 miles. I am excited about reaching the 10,000 mile mark. It seems like I only yesterday that started this crazy exercise Trek and journey. It has been a total of 455 days or about 1 ¼ years. Damn.

Yes I am still on Princes Highway today. This morning I cruised through Bairnsdale and I passed the Moormurng Flora and Fauna Reserve. I think I am in the Providence Ponds Nature Reserve. It looks like I am headed west and that the next town is Maffra, population about 4,150.

There has been a wee bit of a buzz in the media and on social networks regarding a potential candidate standing as a representative for Illinois’ 9th District. Yes the person was elected to represent her party, but is she really representing the constituents?

It appears that there are about 716,000 persons in the 9th District. About 4% of the 716,000 voted and about a 2.1% gave Ms. Susanne Atanus her party’s majority. This is our democracy and our freedom. But no matter what Ms. Atanus stands for or is capable of spewing forth, is this a true representation of what the general population allows today. And if she is considered by 15,238 of 29,102 the better of the two candidates, what the hell could be wrong with the other candidate? And it appears that Ms. Susanne Atanus brings the "T" to politics.

Eh bien, le livret des instructions sont sur le sac en plastique? Yes there is an English one. This weekend my new Schwinn 170 should take shape.

And every time I look at our progress with the new crocheted squares I am just so reminded of IHOP. The new design, MC, is slated to be a combination traditional and contemporary.

The work on both our quilts Warhol’s Itch and H-1 is incredible. Just wait until we reveal the finished products.

And The Seekers are now playing and singing Waltzing Matlida.

Day 24 - (AD 454) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.3 Miles – Beyond Nicholson, Victoria on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

Just wondering if the past weird and fluctuating weather has something to do with the now blooming amaryllis in the front yard garden. Usually they bloom about Christmas time, which they did. But here it is three months later and they are blooming again. Did I miss something? Did I have a Van Winkle moment? It is said that as one ages time and the days do seem to go faster.

This morning I cycled 21.3 miles on my Schwinn 150. My total to date is now 9,131.3 miles, 14,695.4 kilometers.

I passed the small Town of Nicholson, Victoria this morning on my Trek and I am currently headed west to Bairnsdale. Population of Nicholson is about 1,500. The image of entering Nicholson was taken by John O’Neill in 2008 and is currently used online at Wikipedia.

I am currently located at a point where Princes Highway crosses the East Gippsland Rail Trail. I am now about 180 miles, 290 kilometers from my next Trek goal point.

And thank you Nautilus for sending me the new Schwinn 170. All-things-being-equal I will carefully assemble all the parts together. I should be able to transfer smoothly to my new Schwinn 170 at my next Trek goal point.  What a tremendous acclaim to the success of my Jim's Trek real and virtual.

Blood sugar down two points this morning to 101. I think I can say that I have my diabetes under control. I am now trying to focus on reducing my body fat. This morning’s reading was 20.0%. Not bad. From Built Lean site I am within the Ideal Range for men 56 years old and up – 19.1 to 26%. I’m trying to get to 18.0%. Oh and the following is just another chart showing the statistics in a bit of a different what. Now if there was some way to drop a couple of years, that would be the miracle.

Fringe is certainly an interesting television series construction. Each episode appears to be able to stand on its own. But it is critical to the overall theme and plot that each episode be watched in sequential order. There is/are clue(s) dropped in each 50 minute chapter. And the storyline just keeps building.

Day 23 - (AD 453) – Jim's Trek Part III – 21.5 Miles – Lake Bunga, Victoria on my Schwinn 150

Good Day,

Today, on this 453rd day since I began cycling on my Schwinn 150 on December 2, 2012, I have now cycled 9,110.0 miles, the equivalent of 14,661.2 kilometers. This morning I cycled another 21.5 miles. I burned 639 calories and I completed 100 sit-ups. Not bad for a fellow who is now 62 years and 3 months old.

And two more orchids are blooming on the pool deck.

This morning I am ignoring the Google Maps’ Trek suggestion and I am changing my route to my next destination and goal. At Nowa Nowa instead of going northwest onto C620 I turned southwest and I am continuing to follow Princes Highway. I am now located at the intersection of Princes Highway and Lake Bunga Beach Road.  I am now in Lake Bunga.

Just wondering if in each decade there is a good feeling song that sort of incites everyone who listens to it to smile and feel content with their world. Pharrell Williams' “Happy”, Bobby Ferrin’s “Don’t Worry, Be Happy”, and “If You’re Happy and You Know It” by Alfred B. Smith and by Isaak Dunayevsky, just to name a few.

My blood sugar was up a bit this morning at 103. Must have been the chocolate milkshake I had to have late last night. I’m still holding at an average blood sugar count for the month of 94.4. This translates to an approximate A1c of a wee bit less than 5.0%. And I have not returned to my diabetes medications since last July.

Oh and last night for supper I had a craving for cod and pasta. And so I whipped up a plate of Cod Penne alla Puttanesca.

As I have said before it is imperative for me to watch and enjoy some sort of video companionship while I am on cycling on my Schwinn 150. As long as there is no commercial or meaningless interruption I am very content to just cycle and keep committed to my mode of exercise. I have just finished the 17th episode of Season 1 of Fringe. And now only 83 more episodes to go.

I have now taken the instructions’ booklet from the box. Anticipation.
