Day 426 – (AD 1,586) –23.9 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled my Schwinn 170 23.9 miles. My totals are now 34,087.2 miles; 54,858.1 kilometers.

I now have 4,114.4 miles remaining to cycle to complete my overall goal of 38,201.6 miles.

I reached my goal point and set destination of Cerberus Tholi.

This is a small volcano superimposed on the flanks of a larger one of the Cerberus Tholi, NASA Science, Mars Exploration Program, April 1, 2012.

My new goal point on Mars is now in a south-easterly direction. It is Lucus Planum. The distance between these 2 points, according to WolframAlpha , is 760 miles.

After reaching my goal point I continued for another 1.003 miles. I am now located at 0.13% to my new destination and goal point on Mars.

Something new and different – Or is it?

Something to consider –

Maybe DNA Can’t Answer All Our Questions About Heredity”, Wired, Megan Molteni, May 28, 2018

“Because, we have to remember that for centuries heredity has been used as a weapon to dehumanize and erase some groups of people. For those people genetic testing can be one the most profound experience of their lives. But consumer genetics can only give you really rough estimates right now. It’s going to get a lot more powerful very quickly, it’s just not there yet.”

Days 422 & 423 – (AD 1,585) – 24.0 + 23.7 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

There is beauty in the fallen orchid blossom. And, the new buds of birth catch the eye.

Today, I surpassed 34,000 miles by 16.4 miles. That is, I have pedaled 34,016.4 since I started my cardio routine, on my Schwinn Fitness cycles on December 2, 2012.

Yesterday morning I cycled my Schwinn 170 24.0 miles. Today I cycled another 23.7 miles. Totals are now 34,016.4 miles; 54,744.2 kilometers.

I am located at 88.17% to my new destination and goal point on Mars.

Something new and different –

Okay, I’m a wee bit stymied. Tupperware will introduce in February 2019 a new line of food storage that can be programmed with Alexa and warn you when food is just about ready to expire.

From Circuit Breaker “This smart Tupperware connects to Alexa and warns you when food is about to go bad”, Thuy Ong, May 22, 2018.

“The Ovie Smarterware food storage system is designed to help you keep track of the food in your fridge so it doesn’t go to waste. The system contains several parts: a SmartTag that goes into an Ovie container, a clip for bags of food, or a universal connector for other forms of storage (like takeout boxes).”
Jim’s Gotta Eat – https://jimsgottaeat.blogspot.com/

This supper was my first attempt at Lablabi. I took the recipe from the magazine Milk Street, Jan/Feb 2018 Issue and the article by J. M. Hirsch “Lablabi: The Best Soup in the World”.

I really liked it. And my early morning blood sugar dropped to 117 mg/dL.

Tonight, I am going to try Khao Tom - Thai Rice Soup.

Andy and I typically bind, French- or Double-Fold, our quilts. With the onset and construction of our Cranes Quilts we've started facing.

As I am the designer of our quilts and Andy is the technician, to me it certainly is Greek at times on how to finish our quilts.

Day 421 – (AD 1,583) – 23.2 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I pedaled my Schwinn 170 23.2 miles. Totals are now 33,968.7 miles; 54,667.4 kilometers.

I am located at 80.09% to my new destination and goal point on Mars. I have now completed 88.92% of my total goal of 38,201.6 miles.

Something new and different –

I’ve noticed that I do get a lot of junk and set-for-the-trash emails.

One thing I’ve noticed is that the spammers who set whatever algorithm in action are somewhat lazy. To date I have received spam emails addressed, that is, in the salutation of the email, to Jacqueline, to Jermey, to Jsmith58, and to Smith.

My name is Jim. Period. And my legal name is James. One would think that the spammers would get the name right.

But this is getting a wee bit frustrating, especially as I have no idea who Miss Jacqueline is.

And I need to bitch a wee bit. Yes, I know my Google subscription is free.

For years I have been using Google News. I liked the way that I could specify the topics that I could and would receive current and updated news. I also could block news pertaining to areas like “Entertainment” and “Sports”.

I think I have figured out how to add my saved searches. I’m still working on how to get rid of some superfluous topics.

Last night I watch the HBO movie and remake “Fahrenheit 451”. (It was a good movie.)

But I can see where the updated version of Ray Bradbury’s classic did consider “how”. “what”, and “where” people would and could receive their up-to-date news. The similarities to some current social media were somewhat disconcerting.

And then again, Bradbury’s “Fahrenheit 451” has always been something to think about.

Jim’s Gotta Eat – https://jimsgottaeat.blogspot.com/

Supper last night was Chicken Thighs with Snap Pea and Mushrooms. I sort of stole bits and pieces from the linked recipe.

For dessert I created a Red Velvet Brownie Cake with White Chocolate Glaze.

I tried to adapt the recipe for Chocolate Brownie Cake. And using White Chocolate Chips I should have reduced the amount of Heavy Cream to somewhere between ½ and ¾ cup instead of the 1 cup as called for in the recipe. https://iambaker.net/chocolate-brownie-cake/

Stop ocean waters rising.

Number 45's brain (or lack thereof) has been at it again.

The question is, in his daily intake of "news" did he inadvertently misconstrue information regarding aliens and mix, heavens forbid, the said details between what is happening regarding the Columbian caravan at the Tijuana border and the possible outer space octopus panspermia theory?

I may be giving more credit where credit is not due.

I may just be an octopus who was born in Jamaica...

And from Popular Science, Sara Chodosh writes “Octopuses are not aliens, but boy are they a bunch of beautiful weirdos”, May 18, 2018.

“William Gilly, a biologist specializing in cephalopods at the Hopkins Marine Station of Stanford University, told Popular Science that “To be truthful, this paper seems to be so badly written and full of misleading statements that I cannot believe that it passed peer-review in any respectable journal.” He also asked whether this was perhaps the April Fool’s issue of the journal, as that would be the easiest explanation.”

But it does seem that the scripted author’s of the suggested paper may or may not have origins at 1400 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Cranes Quilts Update -

The 6 Red Crane tops are 92% complete. We're trying to decide on some construction elements of hanging a few of the first 6 quilts. Do we or do we not? Stay tuned.

Red Crane Quilts are being prepped for quilting.

We're thinking and designing the quilting pattern(s) for our Cranes Quilts.

Here's the challenge - We're hoping to have a completely, or almost uniquely different quilt-ing pattern for each individual Cranes Quilt.

This Project has Andy and me thinking of quilt construction in ways we've never tackled be-fore. It is proving very interesting and challenging.

I’m wondering about the primary reason folks use and test and Autosomal DNA testing process. Methinks that most people may only be concerned with the “ethnicity” portion of the test.

According to the results I have received, the results for Matches, there appears to be a greater percentage of people who do not provide any family tree in order to continue with the search for common ancestors.

The number of matches (I’ve rounded) via the Autosomal DNA tests that I have received are as follows:

Family Tree DNA – 5,100 matches

23andMe – 1,100

Ancestry – 22,000

My Heritage – 5,300, and

Living DNA – still waiting for the introduction of the matching capability.

I know, I know, some people are a wee bit leery of putting out as much of their family tree information on an online site, but the purpose of DNA matching is to match to a or some common ancestor. Genealogy is not only determining one’s ethnicity. It is primarily the effort of finding one’s ancestral roots.

Day 414 – (AD 1,576) – 23.4 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

1939?

No. That is not the year I was born.

When pedaling my Schwinn 170, my routine is typically 5 hours each week. (I started in December 2012.) Also, as a part of my routine is to either watch a TV series or movie, without commercial interruptions. That helps my routine one hour go much faster, or so it seems.

Well sometimes I usually split the movie into parts and watch the whole over a se-ries of 1-hour rides.

This morning, I decided to watch one of those marathon movies, one that I have never ever seen before. And of course, it is a classic, “Gone With The Wind”.

Finally, I will get to find out why Rhett Butler says to Scarlett “Frankly, my dear, I don’t give a damn.

My question based on the first hour of this mega-film is “Why within in the first hour is someone looking out a window?”

Jim’s Gotta Eat – https://jimsgottaeat.blogspot.com/

My search continues for fresh ramps in Tampa?

Along, with Whole Foods and The Fresh Market, there are no ramps to be had at MD Oriental Market on Fowler Avenue. And of course, I walked out with a few grocery bags with fresh produce from MD Oriental Market.

And for light reading, “Who Invented Bread?” by Joanna Fantozzi, Life Science, May 11, 2018.

The Natufians had the earliest known agricultural-based society and would process grains into a coarse flour, from which they made a "small, pita-like, unleavened loaf cooked directly on the coals of a fire," Miller said.

My Olive Oil Sourdough Loaf looks a wee bit different.

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

Progress continues on the construction of the red Cranes Blocks. 5 of the 6 set of Cranes blocks have been completed.

Answer to question(s) - Andy and I are making 40 Cranes Quilts for our Cranes Spectrum. There are 6 sets, 3 sets representing 3 primary color shades; 3 set representing secondary colors. Each Cranes Quilt will be a unique Batik color. The Cranes Quilts will vary in size as will the size of the Crane blocks.

In addition to the 40 Cranes Quilts, we intend to create and present an additional 10+ Cranes. Also 3 friends are each creating a Crane creation for the Crane Project.

The "paquebot", the boat the Brunhammers, Great Great Grandmother Marie and 6 of her 14 children, sailed on and made their eventual way from Alsace, France via Le Harve, to Philadelphia in the United States in 1876 on May 17, 142 years ago.

GG-Grandfather Jacques (Jacob) Brunhammer must have arrived a wee bit earlier in the last 3 months of 1875. The passenger manifests for October, November, and December of 1875 have disappeared. There is no copy at the Philadelphia National Archives. The family is all together, including the youngest 2 Harry and Joseph, in the 1880 US Census in Gloucester, New Jersey. They lived on Ridgeway Street. (If you search for the 1880 US Census, the surname was incorrectly entered in the 1930s Soundex records as "Preenharness". Ancestry entered the family as "Preenharness".)

When is the next US Census to be held?

I thought is was to be 2020?

I received a mailing for a US Census from the "United States Census Bureau". Initially I could not find out anywhere whether this is legit or not? https://respond.census.gov/acs/login

I called various departments including the US Census Bureau. It is legit.

It appears that these are done specifically to targeted areas throughout the years. Now it makes more sense why there were only 10 questions on the 2010 general survey.
