Jim's Trek V, my exercise journey now on my Schwinn 170 from Tampa to parts unknown...

Days 385 – (AD 1,547) – 23.2 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled my Schwinn 170 23.2 miles. Totals are now 33,114.7 miles; 53,293.0 kilometers.

And I have now completed 15.23% of the distance to my next destination point.

Soapbox –

I’ve begun a list of what #45 will be known for when he finally does leave the Oval Office.

1. Twitter tweets
2. Revolving administrators and staff
3. Lasing out
4. Inciting the world to continue lowering their respect for this country
5. Hypocrisy
6. Not able to separate himself from a continual campaigning mode
7. Not capable of handling himself with any mode of professional decorum
8. tba
9. tba
10. tba
11. tba

Something New, But Old –

It’s getting to that time of the year, when hopefully the Pollen Season is waning at home here in Tampa. And now I need to think of what vegetables and/or fruits that I would like to grow on my lanai and pool deck, and in my Garden Tower.

The Guardian has a good article by Lucy Chamberlain, dated 31 March 2018 “How to grow your own veg: a beginner’s guide

Okay, okay I know that this article is written for the UK, but it can be easily adapted to my Tampa Bay area small garden.

Something different –

A couple of days ago, I asked Google (Google search) whether or what percentage of alcohol in a recipe is eliminated during cooking. I discovered many links that the actual truth is that it varies but, in most cases, only about 25% (give or take) is dissipated during the cooking time.

Okay I was fine with that and so I made a Coconut Bread Pudding without the amount of Bourbon asked for in the recipe. Not a big deal. The Coconut Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce was fantastic. And I did not use any Bourbon.

That concluded the Google search, and the gourmet results of the Coconut Bread Pudding.

But today via my Google News I get a link from The Denver Post of an article dated March 30, 2018 by Bill St. John “Get Cooking: Cooking without wine or beer” …

“According to the Agricultural Research Service of the Department of Agriculture, 75 percent of the original alcohol by volume of the liquid used remains in a flambéed dessert, for instance; 25 percent, in a dish that has been simmered or braised for one hour; and 5 percent in the same dish after 2 1/2 hours. (Those percentages for braising are guaranteed if the pot has been covered while cooking, the norm.)”

Who says that that there are no “universal” algorithm that actually “infringes” upon my PC utility searches?

Days 384 – (AD 1,546) – 23.3 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Yup, it is a sinus infection...

You know your brain is congested when you tap on the left side of the top of your head and the sound resounds as if in an underground cavern reverberating and echoing in the dis-tance of the recesses of your right ear.

And yes, I am on the mend. It was finally a good thought and felt really good to get on my Schwinn 170 this morning.

This morning I pedaled 23.3 miles. My totals are now at 33,091.5 miles; 53,255.7 kilometers.

And I am now located at 10.07% of the distance to my next destination on Mars. I still have 5,110.1 miles remaining to reach my final goal.

Something different –

Just stumbled upon an article in Psychology Today penned by Susan Reynolds dated June 7, 2016 “What You Read Matters More Than You Might Think”.

“Deep reading is great exercise for the brain and has been shown to increase empathy, as the reader dives deeper and adds reflection, analysis, and personal subtext to what is being read.”

Days 383 – (AD 1,545) – 23.0 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Yesterday morning, I awoke from the worse night ever. I may have gotten a total of 2 hours of sleep last night. Not sure if it is allergies or the flu. But I felt like I had sneezed, with eyes watering, for the past 18 hours.

But I knew that I had to do some exercise just to make sure that the old bones do not creak beyond their expectations. This morning I pedaled, and sneezed, my Schwinn 170 for 23.0 miles.

My totals are now 33,068.2 miles; 53,218.2 kilometers.

And this morning I reached the center of the crater of Aeolis Mons. My new destination is to the northeast on Mars to Aeolis Serpens. This new distance is, per Wolfram Alpha, 450 miles away. I completed just over 22.0 miles in that direction and I am now located at 4.89% toward my next set goal point.

Just got back from Doctor’s office. Not the flu just a very, very bad allergy reaction. No cycling for the next couple of days. No open windows at my house.

Something New, But Old –

Our Cranes Update -

Definitely not "ducks-in-a-row".

The first set of row of our Cranes, optically, look smaller than they really are. These are 3-inch Cranes. Each Crane block is composed of 17 pieces.

We're now working our design. Stay-tuned.

Following up to my Autosomal DNA comparison exercise, I, serendipitously, stumbled upon an article at the online magazine Vice. Please, understand that I am not trying “to trash” Autosomal DNA testing. I am just trying to point out that it has become an immature tangent of what one could consider is correct genealogy research.

Is it a tool? Yes. Is Autosomal DNA testing providing the answers to the pure science of genealogy and genetic research? In my humble opinion, again Autosomal DNA does not provide the complete and correct end to the questions of one’s genealogy, the study of family origins and history.

Does it provide possible answers to unknown connections and answers to unasked questions? Yes, maybe, and no.

The Vice article by Moses Monterroza, March 21, 2018, “I Tested My DNA and Learned About Self-Delusion”

“Obviously, nothing actually changed. After all, these results are really just percentages vaguely indicating that I am associated with several specific regions on Earth. And really, that’s it. There’s no renewed sense of self, no reconnection with my past, just a bunch of percentage points.”

Take a few moments and read Monterroza’s article. He does present an interesting point of view.

And note, that genealogy is a formidable task of wading through reams and reams of papers and films. It is the searching for and the researching of those glimpses into the past of who and when your ancestors and ancient family existed. It is not necessarily a percentage or estimate provided by a corporation. A corporation and/or organization that is currently examining their bottom line and net return on subscription dues.

Just my opinion.

I've been asked several questions regarding the postings of my and Andy's Autosomal DNA results with respect of the various testing companies and organizations. Why are there differences and varied numbers across the results?

The logical explanation(s) is that certain companies/organizations test only within certain and/or limited capabilities. In other words, some may not test for specific "ethnicities". Also there may be a void of the number of ethnic-specific results in their overall databases.

Does that mean your "liederhausen" should be traded in for a "kilt"? Or should your blue eyes mean you are "definitely" localized to a specific country?

As the results are not necessarily 100% absolute, if you should decide on getting an autosomal DNA test done, please remember that "family matches" may be implicit and should be realized with the necessary sources and documentation.
