Day 160 – (AD 1,322) – 20.1 Miles Today – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled my Schwinn 170 another 20.1 miles. My totals are now at 28,109.5 miles; 45,237.9 kilometers.

I also reached my destination, the center of the Wislicenus Crater. Thus far on Mars, I have traveled 3,207.9 miles or 5,162.6 kilometers.

I’ve decided to change my direction on the virtual part of my journey. I have now headed in a southeasterly direction to the Bakhuysen Crater. According to WolframAlpha, it is 230 miles from the center of Wislicenus Crater.

And this blasted allergy season has not only done a number on my nose and sinuses, let alone the decibel level of my sneezes, I just read that there is some correlating possibility that it can influence my blood sugar levels. It is not necessarily the actual allergies but it may be some of the over-the-counter medication such as antihistamines and decongestants. And guess what I have been taking? DayQuil and NyQuil. I get the nighttime relief but the increase in my blood sugar when I record it in the morning has had me puzzled. It has been inching upward these past couple of weeks and this morning I clocked in at 147 mg/dL. Damn the Quils. Problem solved? Maybe?

And in Florida, we must worry about alligators moving about during the mating season. A wide berth to any massive gator is the rule of thumb. But in Ayr, Australia t’ain’t the gators to worry about. 5-foot Bull Shark in the middle of the road.

Guess one always has to check under their car no matter where one lives.

Day 159 – (AD 1,321) – 20.2 Miles Today – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

New mini orchids blooming this morning – aroma of cocoa.

This morning I pedaled my Schwinn 170 another 20.5 miles. Totals now stand at 28,089.4 miles; 45,205.6 kilometers.

And I have completed 97.2% of the distance to my next destination and goal point, the center of Wislicenus Crater. now I must make a decision to locate my neat goal point. To the northeast is Evros Vallis; to the east Flaugergues; and to the southeast Bakhuysen. Check in again on Friday to learn what I have decided.

Tonight’s supper, again something I’ve never had or cooked before – Vietnamese Catfish Clay Pot. Should prove very interesting.

Update on quilt design and making – We’re currently completing the next part of the construction of a commissioned piece(s) which is constructed of 46 quilts. Yes, I wrote 46; 1 quilt 6-feet wide by 4-feet long and 45 mini quilts. This one is slated for release mid-April. We have been working in conjunction with a local and nationally renowned artist.

Our 151st quilt – ES20 has been completed and is slated to be auctioned at the Equality Florida St. Pete Gala on April 15 at the Mahaffey Theater in Saint Petersburg.  Watch for our write-up at Quilts SB.

Day 158 – (AD 1,320) – 20.2 Miles Today – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning, first thing, I played the Grandpa-babysitter. Yes, I will do anything for my two grandsons. And when I returned home I pedaled my Schwinn 170 20.2 miles.

Totals now stand at 28,068.9 miles; 42,172.6 kilometers.

And on the virtual part of this crazy Trek, I am at 89.3% of the distance to my next destination and goal point.

Last night for supper I tried something very, new and very different. I made Lima Beans and Shrimp on Cheese Grits. And easy concoction, and you know what it is a repeatable recipe.

Shrimp, Lima Beans, Onions, Green Pepper, Long Hot Pepper, Celery, Cajun spices, Butter and Olive Oil, Salt and Pepper…and a roux. My mind has now been opened to a whole new world of Cajun cooking.

And of course, there was freshly baked Olive Bread, Caraway Bread, and Raisin Bread. Yes, my FBS remained stable… but I do know that I could have easily overdone and pigged out.

In The Guardian, this afternoon I have just read an article/opinion by Victoria Herrman. Ms. Herrman is the Managing Director of the Arctic Institute and a National Geographic Explorer. the opinion/article is “I am an Arctic researcher. Donald Trump is deleting my citations

“Over the past two months though, I’ve been navigating a different type of uncharted territory: the deleting of what little data we have by the Trump administration.”

I am not a conspiracy follower and/or believer but there are some interesting points made in this opinion piece.

Good Day,

Today I cycled 20.3 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals now 28,048.7 miles; 45,140.1 kilometers.

This morning I’ve completed 81.5% of the distance to my next destination and goal point. I’m on the edge of Wislicenus Crater. It’s a bloody big crater…as craters go.

Just curious as to the latest press pictures and images of #45. It seems that his orange tones are fading. Is it time for a definite sunset waning?

Last night’s supper – Moroccan Haddock Tagine – Haddock, obviously; Chickpeas; fresh String Beans; Carrots; Orange Bell Pepper; Chinese Chives; Garlic; Preserved Lemon; Turmeric; Paprika; Salt and Pepper.

My early morning blood sugar dropped 20 points, but I’ve got to still work to bring it down to where I am comfortable.

And I’m trying some new flours this morning. Here are I images of the 1st proof and just out of the oven – Spanish Olive Bread. (Damn it looks good.)

And it is still singing.

There are two Raisin Loaves proofing now on the count.

#45 will eventually take credit for his "experience and understanding" that the proposed health care bill was not of his making and therefore he just wanted to "help" Americans to avoid any further confusion.

#45 blamed the Democrats for their lack of support.

The Daily 202: Trump’s health care ultimatum is straight out of ‘The Art of the Deal.’ It just might work.” (James Hoffman, The Washington Post, March 24, 2017).

“Trump, who knows this is a high-risk gamble, is following through on his campaign promise to bring a businessman’s approach to government. Today offers a big test of how that will work out… A word on the substance: While Trump is driving a hard bargain, that does not necessarily mean it’s a good bargain for the American people.”

Sitting in the waiting lobby for one of those surveys scheduled interviews and there are two men discussing the negatives of the Obama Versus the Trump presidencies. Talk about bullshit. And of course, the old coot is from Polk County. The incorrect non-facts are amazing, the bull is rampant.

Day 154+40 – (AD 1,316) – 20.0 Miles Today – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 20.0 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals now completed, since Dec. 2, 2012 – 27,988.6 miles; 45,043.4 kilometers. I still have 10,213.0 miles remaining.

Oh yeah, I am pedaling the equivalent of the combined total of the circumferences of both the Earth and Mars – 38,201.6 miles.

And this morning I have completed 58.4% of the distance to my next goal and destination point.

Allergies are a bitch.

Supper last night – Picadillo. I did not realize that there are so, so many versions and recipes. Mine last night was Ground Beef and Pork with Dried Cranberries; Potatoes; Capers; Onions; Diced Tomatoes; Orange Bell Pepper, Spices, Salt and Pepper on rice.

FBS dropped 7 points. But I’ve got a long way to bring it back down. My A1c has inched its way up to 5.96%. An A1c level below 5.7 percent is considered normal. Type 2 diabetes, which I have, is diagnosed when the A1c is over 6.5%. I’ve got to do something now. I exercise 5 hours a week.

I eat well and do not snack on any foods after 9 pm at night. Could be the impact of other meds and supplements that I take? And I’ve tried the “holistic” types of supplements and they do not seem to work on my system. Looks like I may have to request of my doctors for some chemical involvement, once again.

Day 153+40 – (AD 1,315) – 20.2 Miles Today – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 20.2 miles on my Schwinn 170 cycle. Totals now – 27,968.6 miles; 45,011.2 kilometers.

And today I am further than the halfway mark to my next destination and goal point on Mars.

I got one of the new-fangled light bulbs for the standing floor lamp in the living room. It can be set up to use with Alexa or controlled via my iPhone or iPad. When I was setting it up I had to include it in my Wi-Fi network. I was asked if I would like my light-bulb to allow for my location...

And I named it "Clap".

So now all I say is "Alexa Clap on" or "Alexa Clap off" then the lamp goes on or off automatically. And it dims when I say "Alexa Clap dim down".

Oh yeah, the bulb is supposed to last 22.8 years.

Remember when I mentioned the issues and incorrect database listing regarding my pension and the final straightening out of the system(s) error?

Well, everything has been going fine since January 1, 2017, and I have been receiving my monthly pension distribution directly from the same firm that had had the screw up in their system.

And then tonight happened. I received a phone call from a representative of pension company at 5:45 pm and she informed me that per the pension system I was incorrectly receiving monthly pension distributions. She went on to further say that pension would be putting a stop to my distribution and that I would have to refund the amount that I had received. She stated that the system showed a termination date for me as at August 31, 2013. She further went to say that the system showed me as an "Active Employee".

Huh?

I must have been dreaming on October 12, 2016, when I received the call from pension, as noted, and I must have been having some sort of "mental seizure" when I had discussed with my former employer that I was told that I had been "grandfathered in on LTD through December 19, 2016", and that my retirement date was "December 31, 2016".

I have been receiving my correct pension amount every month since January 2017 and notification(s) from pension to that effect.

My blood pressure just went barreling through whatever test-tube is sitting on whatever shelf.

The most both pension and my former employer could tell me at 6:00 pm and at 6:30 pm, respectively, was that they would have "to open a ticket item to investigate my situation".

Bloody hell.

Postscript – I have received calls from both the pension and human resources this morning and afternoon, respectively, and I was told that the error has been corrected. My pension distribution is on its way.

And I have now completed 43.0% of the distance to my next destination and goal point.

Good rule of thumb when choosing and deciding new destinations and goal points, have some long and some shorter so there is variety.

Tonight, for supper I’m going to try a Peanut Chicken Noodle Bowl. I did make it. It tasted sort of like a pasta dish, with Udon Noodles and Spicy Peanut Sauce.
