Day 334 – (AD 1,496) – 24.8 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today, I pedaled 24.8 miles on my Schwinn 170. (I’m keeping my time limit to 60 minutes a session.) Totals are now 31,891.1 miles; 51,323.8 kilometers.

And I have completed 84.75% of the distance to my next destination and goal point.

Jim’s Gotta Eat –

I decided to roast some vegetables and make Ajvar, a roasted pepper and eggplant dip.

Cranes Quilt Update -

Our latest Cranes quilt top has been completed. Our quilt sandwich is a 4 layers: top; 2 lay-ers of cotton batting; and the backing.

Working on the quilting design. This one is to be a variation and combination of 3 styles. We're working on our samplings.

Well I’m Going To Be Wealthy –

And this time some gentleperson, a Mr. Benjamin Udevis, who works for "DHL" who's "dip-lomatic agent Mr. William Tom" will arrive at LA Airport in California.

(Not sure why Mr. Udevis, DHL Director had to remind me that Los Angeles is in Califor-nia?)

Mr. William Tom will have my ATM Card worth $12.5 Million USD. He, Mr. Tom has been assisted by IMF Director John Andy and National DHL Agent Dr. Peter Campbell.

I am then instructed, I think, to provide:

My name...
My country...
My phone number...
My home address...
My city...
My occupation...
My nearest airport...
My age and sex...
My ID and Driver's license...

And according to the "explicit" instructions I am to contact Mr. William Tom with my above-indicated information before he does leave the country.

Obviously Mr. Benjamin Udevis the DHL Director is concerned "that because of impostors" they have issued me with a "code of conduct which is ATM 8411". Mr Udevis is concerned that my "information is urgently needed for the delivery of my (sic) package with $12.5M.

But I am a wee bit confused as accordingly in the body of the email my "ATM" code is "8411", yet in the closing salutation of the email my "ATM CARD PIN code is 4421".

Which is it? 8411 or 4421?

Does Mr. Benjamin Udevis not realize that I only have the capacity of remembering one 4-digit number? Will I lose sleep over this concern and issue?

Tampa, FL's 2nd winter's on its way...

So, I decided to make a batch of homemade Habitant Pea Soup.

And for dessert - Peanut Butter Brownies.

Cranes Quilt Update -

What happens when you find a iron-stain on your completed top?

At least we have a good portion of the white background for replacement.

We considered bleach, but it was too close to one of the Cranes, and we feared a liquid run and absorption by the Crane. So a quick cut-out and replace did the trick.

The border has been added to the top. Next job, the construction of the quilt sandwich. Next the consideration of the background quilting design.

I got caught –

Following the saga of my non-existing Orenda Coffee Maker I received an email and FB message at 5:19 yesterday morning

Soapbox –

I wonder if there is a delayed reaction with the FiveThirtyEight consolidated popularity poles. After last night’s harangue by #45 regarding his vile racist remarks I wonder whether there may be a future effect of his rankings?

And of course, according to Reuters “Trump denies ‘shithole’ remarks as condemnation mounts at home and abroad”, Staff, Jan 12, 2018.

“The reported language was the latest in a long string of anti-immigrant and anti-Muslim comments by Trump that have been condemned as racist. He also blamed “both sides” after a white supremacist rally in August in Charlottesville, Virginia, turned violent and a woman protesting against the rally was killed.”

Jim’s Gotta Eat –

I’ve decided that I need to try some new and very different Sourdough Breads. We’ll see if these are ones that I would like to include to my repertoire?

Reading –

When it comes to “what’s good for whatever” articles posted on the Internet I always read, with a grain of salt. This morning a Health article from The/Thirty by Audrey Noble, Jan 10, 2018 “Doctors Say These Are the Best Foods for Acid Reflux”.

Of course, it would be conducive to consider the foods one adds to or the recipes one creates with these foods.

The top to our newest Cranes quilt has been completed. We’re now deciding the final size and the quilting design.

Days 329 & Day 330 – (AD 1,492) – 46.2 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Yesterday and today I pedaled my Schwinn 170 46.2 miles. My totals now stand at 31,795.6 miles; 51,170.6 kilometers.

I have completed 73.14% of the distance to my next destination and goal point. All total I have pedaled 6,894.3 miles on Mars. (The pedaling is real, the location is, well, sort of a fantasy.)

Well?

I got caught –

I am one who does not necessarily like to divulge that I have been taken.

Yes, I was. I believe that I have been duped.

I most definitely would like to eat my words.

I am still waiting for the delivery of the Orenda Coffee Maker Machine, a brand new and original coffee grinder and brewer.

I have received a number of emails from the contacts, "Jade" telling me that my Machine was on its way. I ordered it last July 2017. Today is January 9, 2018.

I even had a brother-in-law go to the address in Wilmington, Delaware that is listed as their headquarters on their website.

According to my brother-in-law and the receptionist at the building, on the floor of the sup-posed location of the office, there is and there never was such an office at the location in the building. The address is 1521 Concord Pike, City of Wilmington, DE, 19803. I even contacted Orenda telling them about the lack of any physical office at the location given on their website.

On December 25, 2017 I did receive an email, from "Jade" quoting my order number and a November December update.

Today according to their website, a note states "1st and 2nd Batch sold out", 3rd batch ship-ping end of February. Reserve yours and save $100."

The last posting to their Facebook page was October 9, 2017.

I would like to hear from "anyone" who has received a physical Orenda Machine.

I would like my $434 US returned immediately. But I do believe it is gone in the wind.

And yes, I did not use American Express, which I normally do. The owner of the bank card I used did tell me that I was beyond the acceptable 60-day limit. They said that they have sent a good-faith collection letter...but that is soon to expire.

Yes, I believe I got took.

People still can send Orenda money and the details still look slick and "authentic".

I do believe I have been duped.

“As shoppers have switched to grocery delivery, online ordering, and self-checkout stations, the once-numerous cashier species now finds itself dwindling in number. Researchers warn that if such trends aren’t contained, cashiers could be upgraded to endangered status before the end of the decade.”

Cranes Update -

Our latest Crane quilt is in process. This image is a preliminary draft of our design to create a movement of the static Cranes. We're using all 4 sizes of our Cranes' design. We're working out the elements of the background while incorporating the techniques of modern, strip-piecing, and crazy quilting.

Our discussions have been to the effect -

"Can we do this?"

"Do you mean this way?"

"But!"

"No, bloody way!"

"But that's not what you said."

"That's what I meant."

"Are we now both in agreement?"

We're both excited that we are trying something new and different, once again.

We're incorporating each completed Crane block into our strip-pieced background. This is something we've never tried before. It is not appliqué work.

Each individual block is pieced. (The fabric pieces are cut using our #AccuQuilt Crane block die design. Based on our overall quilt design, an individual block is then pieced into the strip-pieced background.

The Cranes on the left are already pieced into the background. The Cranes on the right, that can be seen through the background fabric, will be sewn in, albeit pieced into the back-ground strips.

Jim’s Gotta Eat –

What are they? Internet says poisonous.

It is the raw, unripe fruit and the seeds that are poisonous. They have to open on the tree. For years the FDA would not allow Jamaica to export cans to the US because they could not trust their vetting process. Today it is only a certain few companies from Jamaica that import them to the US. The part you eat are the yellow fingers.

Jamaica's national dish is Ackee and Saltfish. It is a dish to die for and I have been eating it and making it as long as I can remember. I used to get the cans on the "black market". It is a my most favorite dish and meal.

If a hurricane hits the island of Jamaica you can always guarantee the price of Ackees to go up in price. The fruit are "shaken" off the trees and the closed red pods are not supposed to be used for the harvest. The was one of the prime issues that the US FDA took a very long time to finally approve the correct processing and only be a certain few companies.

The Ackee itself, the yellow fingers, look sort of like scrambled eggs, and have a very subtle and mild flavor.

The national dish, Ackee and Saltfish, includes Salt Cod, which is rinsed to remove a lot of the salt, Tomatoes, Onions, Green Pepper, Bacon, Scotch Bonnets, Thyme, Salt and Pepper, and of course the Ackee. The dish is "divine", and I could eat it almost every day of the year.

But I certainly thought twice of buying a can with a photocopied black and white label which were included on the shelf at Sanwa.

Here is a link that I found which explains the making of Ackee and Cod Fish -

Tonight’s supper Ackee and Cod Fish with Jamaican peas and Rice.
