Something to Read -

Bread’s crust not more nutritious than the rest”, CNN, Lisa Drayer, March 27,2018

And a reasonable article from the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner, by Linden Staciokas, April 6, 2018 “Buy it or make it:bread basics

“Usually, I evaluate whether to buy or make a food by three criteria: hassle, taste and cost. This time, however, I used only taste and cost, because making bread is always more of a hassle than simply tossing a bag into your grocery cart.”

As you can see from the images there are numerous times that we stop, un-pick, and start-over again.

Something New, But Old –

Finally, some astounding news from SpaceX. On Monday they launched a Falcon 9 which will “also carried some unconventional cargo: an experimental system known as RemoveDEBRIS, which scientists hope will help clean up Earth’s space junk-littered upper atmosphere.”  (Time, “SpaceX Has Launched an Experimental Space Junk Sweeper Into Orbit", Eli Meixler, April 3, 2018)

This is excellent news if it works. Looks like some oceanographers could take Sweden’s example and begin to convert the “fake-Alaska” floating in the Pacific and convert the junk to energy.

The 2nd stage of the quilting to our Cranes Quilt has begun. All-things-being-equal, it looks like our design work is doing what it should. Yes, these are parallel and diagonal lines, avoiding each and every Crane.

Something New, But Old –

50th Anniversary of 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I remember the film so, so distinctly as it was playing at a small theatre just around the corner of my first apartment in Montreal. I was attending Sir George Williams University, now Concordia, and I was slated to follow the track of medicine in academia.

Damn, I’ve aged.

“I am afraid I can’t do that Jim.

Something New, But Old –

Well, everyone in New Jersey can breathe a sigh of relief. “China’s out-of-control space station harmlessly breaks up over the Pacific Ocean.” (The Verge, Loren Gusher, April 1, 2018.)

Guess it was looking to add itself to the mess of flotsam and jetsam that’s about the size of Alaska just floating in the vicinity.

And hell, the GPS mapping must have been off kilter, New Jersey’s just a wee bit around the corner. I guess 17,000 miles per hour is is just short of fast.

Something New, But Old –

It’s getting to that time of the year, when hopefully the Pollen Season is waning at home here in Tampa. And now I need to think of what vegetables and/or fruits that I would like to grow on my lanai and pool deck, and in my Garden Tower.

The Guardian has a good article by Lucy Chamberlain, dated 31 March 2018 “How to grow your own veg: a beginner’s guide

Okay, okay I know that this article is written for the UK, but it can be easily adapted to my Tampa Bay area small garden.

Something different –

A couple of days ago, I asked Google (Google search) whether or what percentage of alcohol in a recipe is eliminated during cooking. I discovered many links that the actual truth is that it varies but, in most cases, only about 25% (give or take) is dissipated during the cooking time.

Okay I was fine with that and so I made a Coconut Bread Pudding without the amount of Bourbon asked for in the recipe. Not a big deal. The Coconut Bread Pudding with Vanilla Sauce was fantastic. And I did not use any Bourbon.

That concluded the Google search, and the gourmet results of the Coconut Bread Pudding.

But today via my Google News I get a link from The Denver Post of an article dated March 30, 2018 by Bill St. John “Get Cooking: Cooking without wine or beer” …

“According to the Agricultural Research Service of the Department of Agriculture, 75 percent of the original alcohol by volume of the liquid used remains in a flambĂ©ed dessert, for instance; 25 percent, in a dish that has been simmered or braised for one hour; and 5 percent in the same dish after 2 1/2 hours. (Those percentages for braising are guaranteed if the pot has been covered while cooking, the norm.)”

Who says that that there are no “universal” algorithm that actually “infringes” upon my PC utility searches?
