Day 573 – (AD 1,732) – 24.1 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Happy 6th Day of Christmas.

Today I pedaled 24.1 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals are now 37,592.4 miles; 60,499.2 kilometers.

I have plotted a new path and goal destination, Ascraeus Mons. I am now located at 95.12%. I cannot show my present location because the application for Google Mars is on my Desktop, which of course, right now is at the shop getting a new graphic card.

Only 609.2 miles remaining in Jim’s Trek. From my calculations I will complete my targeted 38,201.6 miles in 28 more pedaling days.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

Jim’s Gotta Eat – https://jimsgottaeat.blogspot.com/

The experiment – Re-purpose Holiday leftovers. Leftovers are, and each will be the primary ingredient in each individual dish and meal – Smoked Sausage; Mac & Cheese; Pulled Pork; Mashed Sweet Potatoes; and Rice.

Supper #3 of the Challenge – Leftover 4Rivers Pulled Pork, re-purposed into Shepherds' Pie.

I used this recipe as a base. I also added about 1 teaspoon of Baking Soda to the 4Rivers Pulled Pork to cut down the acrid smokey flavor and after-taste.

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

40 Crane Quilts, our Cranes Spectrum, are stacked and ready.

Next step is to cut and fix 50 hangers.

Our Hope Project setup date is scheduled for January 10. We will be sharing an Artist Reception between 1-5 pm at the UUC Octagon Arts Center on Saturday, January 12 in Clearwater.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

Jim’s Gotta Eat – https://jimsgottaeat.blogspot.com/

This week begins an experiment and a challenge to me.

The experiment – Repurpose Holiday leftovers. Leftovers are, and each will be the primary ingredient in each individual dish and meal – Smoked Sausage; Mac & Cheese; Pulled Pork; Mashed Sweet Potatoes; and Rice.

Last night repurposed supper gets flying colors.

Japanese Cucumber Sunomono Salad.

Leftover 4Rivers Sausage Pasta and Cheese.

Leftover 4Rivers Sweet Potato Casserole - Repurposed as a Pseudo Jamaican Sweet Potato Pudding.

Supper #3 of the Challenge – Leftover 4Rivers Pulled Pork. Check back tomorrow to find what happens.

Quilting – https://quiltsb.blogspot.com/

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

All labels have been attached to 50 quilts of our Hope Project.

We have counted 330 Crane blocks in 10 quilts plus 1 coat. We’re guessing about 1,200 more Crane blocks in the 40 quilts of the Cranes Spectrum.

Next Steps -

1. Determine the color and shade order of the 40 quilts of the Cranes Spectrum. We do not have a Spectrophotometer readily available. We will be using our Red and Green Color Evaluator filters.

2. Measure each of the 50 quilts of our Hope Project.

3. Make wooden hangers for all the 50 quilts.

4. Checklist for January 10 delivery and setup at the UUC Octagon Art Center in Clearwater.

Our Hope Project setup date is scheduled for January 10. We will be sharing an Artist Reception between 1-5pm at the UUC Octagon Arts Center on Saturday, January 12 in Clearwater.

Last night repurpose supper gets just a passable grade – Leftover Asian Shrimp Rice – Rice Casserole

Biscuits are Pao de Queijo – Tapioca Cheese Biscuits.

The biscuits were the best part.

Supper #2 of the Challenge – Leftover 4Rivers Sausage and Sweet Potato Casserole. Check back tomorrow to find what happens.

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

All hanging sleeves have been attached to all 50 quilts. Hangers are still to be constructed. Labels have been printed and are now in process of being framed before being attached to each Crane Quilt.

The labels for the quilts in the Cranes Spectrum will go from # s 01.40 through 40.40. Andy and I still must determine which one is 01.40 and so on. Our idea is a progression of shades as each one of the Cranes Quilts represent 40 different shades of color in batik.

Our Hope Project setup date is scheduled for January 10. We will be sharing an Artist Reception between 1-5pm at the UUC Octagon Arts Center on Saturday, January 12 in Clearwater.

Day 570 – (AD 1,729) – 24.1 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

On the 2nd Day of Christmas, I don’t need any more pets. Fours dogs are quite enough. And Happy Boxing Day to one and all.

This morning I pedaled 24.1 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals are now 37,519.34 miles; 60,381.8 kilometers.

I have plotted a new path and goal destination, Ascraeus Mons. I am now located at 84.54%.

Only 682.2 miles remaining in Jim’s Trek.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

Question: Why is it that some persons feel that the older the get, the more entitled they think they should be?

The math approximates, but an approximation is better than the lies coming out of the Oval Office. From The Washington Post, “Based on Trump’s detailed diagram of his slat wall, here is some advanced mathematics”, by Philip Bump, Dec. 23, 2018.

“What’s more, a nine-inch gap wouldn’t necessarily keep people out. In 2010, a prisoner in a jail in Tennessee escaped his cell by covering himself with grease and squeezing between bars set 4.5 inches apart. He would have found the steel slats — with gaps between that are twice that size — practically roomy.”

Jim's Trek - Merry Christmas and Bah Hum-Coffee

Merry Christmas,

And it is time for another tale from the BS Coffee Saga.

This Christmas Morning, bright and early, with all gifts wrapped and food-stuffs readied, I felt it was time to settle down for a pleasant cup of coffee from my infamous Orenda Coffee Machine.

"Yes please", I hear through the darkness, as AB slowly gets out of bed.

# 148 coming right up, I answer instead.

Everything set, beans, water, filter, and cup in place, I search for my IPhone to query the Orenda App space. The Internet is working and the wireless connections sets off. The grinder, not that one, the Orenda one does it thing and it whirs, and burrs and crusheds the beans. A fantastic aroma of fresh new coffee grounds fill the Christmas, albeit Florida, air.

The Orenda begins its dances. It splishes and splashes, and the stream of Over-Brew hot water cascades over fresh gems of coffee grounds.

# 148 done. Come and get it.

Okay, done, now #149.

The beans get ground, the hot H2O has sprung, with a whir and a buzz, the gleaming and shiny Orenda Coffee Machine comes to a sputtering stop.

Bloody hell, not again, I says to myself, but I do know how to manage and clean this non-friendly consumer contraption.

30 minutes, and I keep the coffee ground cloud to a minimum, I unscrew this piece, and pull out that one. I clean and I rotate, I spic-and-span the counter. I bloody well make sure I do not lose the 2 minute screws.

I've cleaned, and I struggled, and the Orenda is steady, but what to expect but no cup of jo is ready.

The hot brewed water is now no longer spritzing into the waiting of the cup's mouth below. Damn, double damn, I wish it t'weren't so.

I am puzzled. No instruction explanation, but I notice a tab right where the brewed water should pass. I pull and the piece extracts with a jerk. Aha I think, this passage needs work.

Yes, the trial works and now on to cups # 150 and # 151. That's $2.87 a cup.

And as I wish you all Season's Greetings, remember to note that Santa is thinkin'. No longer a chunk of coal for those ne'er do well, but an Orenda Coffee Machine, that can go to hell!!!

Days 568 & 569 – (AD 1,728) – 23.4 + 24.7 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

PC's back in the house. Had to get it from the shop, even not completely fixed. The shop is closed until after Christmas.  And of course, I have too much work to get done in preparation for our Hope - Cranes Quilts - Project on January 10.

Yesterday morning I pedaled 23.4 miles on my Schwinn 170. This morning I cycled 24.7 miles. Totals are now 37,495.3 miles; 60,343.0 kilometers.

I have plotted a new path and goal destination, Ascraeus Mons. I am now located at 81.04%.

Only 706.3 miles remaining in Jim’s Trek.

Think of this. I only have about 33 more pedaling days to go and I will reach my total goal of 38,201.6 miles.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

Jim’s Gotta Eat – https://jimsgottaeat.blogspot.com/

Supper last night was an excellent Winter Melon Soup with Pork Meatballs.

It is the first time I have ever used Winter Melon. It most definitely will not be the last. https://omnivorescookbook.com/recipes/winter-melon-meatball-soup

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

The transfer of our quilting design is done. We’re using a variegated blue thread in the body of the Monster Crane. The fabric is allowing us to follow a sort-of stippling pattern. We’re using a variable random pebbling on the background, albeit moon, using a close-matching white thread.

Days 565 & 566 – (AD 1,725) – 23.6 + 23.7 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Checking my schedule and my recording of my days cycling I forgot to post the number for last Friday which was my 1722nd day, I pedaled 23.7 miles. I think that my brain is getting myself confused with dates and deadlines. I suppose it happens.

Yesterday morning I pedaled another 23.6 miles on my Schwinn 170. This morning I cycled 23.7 miles. Totals are now 37,423.8 miles; 60,227.9 kilometers.

I have plotted a new path and goal destination, Ascraeus Mons. I am now located at 70.68%.

Only 777.8 miles remaining in Jim’s Trek.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

Almost 100 years later, have we truly got any better at figuring it/them out?

Last night I watched a fair movie produced in 2012, “No God, No Master”.

Interesting at the play of some characters who could have just walked off the street in today’s political environment.

It is based on the Wall Street bombing of 1920.

And the calls keep coming in.

Today I am getting a refund for the Microsoft Security Services which have been discontinued against my PC account.

Foreign male voice: "Greetings. Whom am I talking to?""

Me: "Mr. Smith."

Foreign male voice: "We would like to refund your account for the Microsoft Security Services which have been discontinued against your PC account."

Me: "Thank you."

Foreign male voice: "Could you please provide the credit card number you used for the Microsoft Services so that we can credit your account?"

Me: "I would like you to send my refund check to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, in Washington, DC."

Foreign male voice: "We cannot send you a refund by check. We need your credit card number."

Me: "You know it is the big house on Pennsylvania Avenue that is very big and all white."

Foreign male voice: "Meester Smeeth, we cannot send out any checks, we need your credit card number to make a good refund."

Me: "I do not use credit cards."

Foreign male voice: "Meester Smeeth, we cannot send you a check for the refund. If you do not have a card card number, we cannot send you a refund."

Me: "I do not use credit cards."

Click. The Foreign male voice hung up.

2 seconds later I get another call regarding a refund for my Microsoft Security services.

Oh, and by the way, I have never ever bought and/or subscribed to Microsoft Security Services.

Click.

And I have just received the 3rd call from the same. Looks like they are trying to make the year-end numbers.

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

We decided to change our tactics in creating our Monster Crane quilt.

Instead of fabric and strip piecing we’re now using appliqué.

We're getting a wee bit antsy. It is our Hope - Cranes Quilt - Project.

Andy and I started with our initial idea about 1 year ago. We have completed more than 50 Cranes Quilts including the Cranes Spectrum.

Set up for the initial showing of is set for January 10. Our Hope Project will begin its showing at the Octagon Arts Center in Clearwater on Saturday, January 12. (More details will follow)

We've decided to change our tactics in creating and constructing our final quilt - The Monster Crane. (That's just a name we're using for now.)

Instead of fabric and strip piecing we're now using appliqué. Not sure if that technique will work., but nothing ventured, nothing gained.

We are only using 2 fabrics choices to create our Monster Crane Quilt, the image and white, of course.

And there is a ton more things to get done before January 10.

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 23.6 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals are now 37,376.5 miles; 60,151.8 kilometers.

BS Coffee Saga -

And everything was going so great.

On cup of coffee # 126, the Orenda Coffee Machine STOPPED! Once again.

Yes, I had to take the machine apart, and clean out the accumulated fine grounds. There is now a covering of grounds all over the kitchen.

Yes, it is now working again. And yes, we got our 126th cup of Coffee, brewed to the way we wanted it to be.

BUT, the Orenda Coffee Machine is NOT the kitchen appliance that you would wish upon your worst enemy unless your close friend has a Mechanical Engineering degree. It is NOT for the faint-hearted, or for the regular day-to-day coffee drink consumer.

Our rating, now, is Buyer Beware.

And we still now have 309 cups of coffee to make in order to recoup the cost of the machine.

Our 126th cup of coffee cost $3.44.

Our Tampa Bay Fried Chicken Test.

This weekend we opted for another franchise for our Fried Chicken Test; Popeye's Louisiana Chicken. Yes, it is fast-food, and that in consideration, the results are, per our opinion are charted.

Any suggestions, in the Tampa Bay area, just send me your comments.

Our Cranes Quilts Update -

The work has begun on our, what we are currently calling, Monster Crane Quilt.

The Monster Crane is based on an image that I found online of a print of an Origami Crane based on the work of the Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai. It will be our interpretation of the same, as we will create a Crane Quilt using our strip-piecing technique.

The Monster Crane Quilt will be approximately a 45/46" square.

And there are a couple more tasks at hand.

- Design and construct the final Crane Quilt of our Hope Project.
- Add hanging sleeves to all Cranes Quilts
- Create Labels for each quilt.
- Construct hanging rods for each.
- Tally the number of Cranes that have been constructed.
- Set shade sequence for each of the 40 quilts in the Cranes Spectrum.
- Write notes to be included in our Hope Project presentation.
- Confirm dates and times of Clearwater showing at the Octagon Arts Center.
- Try to remember what else we have to do.

And answer questions about our Hope - Cranes Quilts - Project.

I have updated My Heritage and Ancestry with the information. You can see these ancestors at the Brunhammer Family and the Brunhammer Doherty Family Trees, respectively.

Your GGGG-Grandfather Johann (Jean) Ganzer was born sometime around the 1760s. I haven't discovered whether he is also from Dornach in Alsace as were all his 12 children.

Good Reading –

From PCWorld “Family Tree DNA review: Unique genealogical collaboration, but an outdated interface”, Dieter Holger, Dec. 14, 2018.

"That said, Family Tree DNA has some intriguing features you won’t find elsewhere. It takes a collaborative approach by letting you share your genealogical and genetic info with a project, where you can help uncover the shared lineage of families. It can also test up to three different parts of your DNA, depending on which versions of the test you pay for."

Day 560 – (AD 1,719) – 23.8 Miles –Jim’s Trek Part V – Mars on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning, I pedaled 23.8 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals are now 37,281.5 miles; 59,998.9 kilometers.

I have plotted a new path and goal destination, Ascraeus Mons. I am now located at 50.06%.

Only 920.1 miles remaining in Jim’s Trek.

Something to think and make sure to do something about –

Damn, I just could not find the spell-check button on my Blackberry.

BS Coffee Saga

What does one go through to get a cup of coffee?

First, find an Allen Wrench small enough, but not too small to open up the top base of the Orenda Coffee machine.

Second, use a Bamboo Shish Kabob Skewer to dislodge the compacted 1-inch of coffee grounds.

Third, make sure that one has a can of Compressed Air to clean out the grinding compartment. There is now a fine dusting of coffee grounds all over the kitchen.

Four, make sure that all the bits and pieces are cleaned and replaced in their original positions.

Fifth, allow the Orenda Coffee machine to reboot itself.

Sixth, test run. Eureka! We have our 111th cup of Coffee.

Figuring the current cost of said 111th cup of coffee, minus the time, effort, email correspondence with Orenda, and the beans, our 111th cup of coffee costs a mere $3.91.

Genealogy – https://agenealogyhunt.blogspot.com/

Started searching for information regarding your 3-times Great-Grandmother Catherine (née Ganzer) Brunhammer. She was born 17 May 1809 in Dornach, a township in Mulhouse, Haut-Rhin, Alsace, France.

In my search, so far, I have discovered that she had 10 siblings, a number who were born just after the French Revolution. I'm having to work with and convert dates from the French Re-publican calendar.

The French Republican calendar was used for 14 years. Using the conversion, it began on the 22nd of September 1792, which was Vendémiaire 1 Raisin and continued to 1805. It can get somewhat confusing.

Five of GGG-Grandmother Catherine's siblings were born during that period of time.
