Day 328 – (AD 758) – 21.7 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Shaking My Head On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Sun shining in Tampa. 68° Farenheit. (That’s 20° Celsius, DM.) And the orchids are beginning to bloom.

I pedaled another 21.7 miles this morning on my Schwinn 170. I have now reached 15,704.1 miles; 25,274.0 kilometers…and I am still going.

Yes the virtual trip continues northeasterly along Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory of Australia. My next sort-of major decision of direction will happen in about 68 miles at Alice Spring. Maybe I’ll climb a rock?

I know that I should not discuss politics while I am virtually in Australia. I just may get into an accident and fall off my stationary fitness cycle. It is beyond my comprehension and understanding to accept the void caused by the number of voting-capable human beings in this sunshine state of Florida.

I consider myself of some rational and reasonable capacity… But damn why oh why are they so many brainless scarecrows elected to Tallahassee? And I am not only referring to our executive branch.

There is something afoot. Two right-wing Central Florida cracker politicians – Senator Alan Hayes, a Dentist, and Representative Neil Combee, a Corporate Farmer and Realtor, are trying to push Dinesh D’Souza’s hypothetical film America: Imagine the World Without Her, as a mandated and required part of public school curriculum. (Fred Grimm, Miami Herald, Feb 13, 2015)

Shades of “Brave New World” and “1984”? Maybe “Animal Farm”?

The film review website Metacritic surveyed 11 movie critics and assessed 10 reviews as negative and 1 as mixed, with none being positive. It gave an aggregate score of 15 out of 100, which indicates "overwhelming dislike". The similar website Rotten Tomatoes surveyed 24 critics and, categorizing the reviews as positive or negative, assessed 22 as negative and 2 as positive. Of the 24 reviews, it determined an average rating of 2.9 out of 10. The website gave the film an overall score of 8% and said of the consensus, "Passionate but poorly constructed, America preaches to the choir." (Wikipedia)

So does this mean that all Florida school children are to be proselytized and provided a “swayed history” enforced by our tax dollars? Are Floridians continuing to enforce the “dumb-downing” of impressionable children and teen-agers? When will politicians learn that their “blindered view” of the world is not only seeing Russia from their front porch in Lakeland?

I am truly beginning to wonder about those entitled to vote in Florida.

Okay I’ll get off my cycle and my soapbox.

Day 327 – (AD 757) – 21.4 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Well Taken On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 21.4 miles on my Schwinn 170.

If you’ve been following my journey I have now cycled a total of 15,682.8 miles; 25,239.1 kilometers on my Schwinn Fitness cycles. My routine is now to work-out and pedal an approximate 20.7 miles a day. Not bad for this 63-year old.

I am still headed north on Stuart Highway in the Northern Territory of Australia. All-things-being-equal I will be cycling about 77 more days before I reach my next intended destination and goal point. And after that I will be pedaling give or take another 1,600 miles to complete Jim’s Trek III.

If this works out the way I hope it will I will complete this crazy bike ride on or about the near end of July. Here’s hoping. And that’s 5 ½ more months of Australia.

New toys in the house. Three other dogs on the prowl and this one is mine.

And what does one do after the proverbial Valentine’s Day? Dust!

Some time back I created a cosine formula that I was able to plot and create a 3-dimensional graph. I then converted the graph to a contour plot and subsequently designed a new pattern to create a date quilt.

Stay tuned and follow up with Quilts SB to see where we go from here.

Day 326 – (AD 756) – 22.1 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Backtracking On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 22.1 miles on my Schwinn 170. My total mileage is now 15,661.4; kilometers – 25,204.6.

This morning I had to make the decision of which way and what road to take to get to my next destination and goal point. I have turned northward. I will be heading back to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory.

The little Google Maps drag-on-man certainly creates a lot of dead ends in this part of the country.

I do have an ultimate destination; it’s just the direction that I go to get there will be changing, I believe, a number of times along my virtual route.

Think I need to get a wee bit more serious about my diet.

My blood sugar jumped 11 points this morning. The reason, I believe, was the 6 plates of food and copious amount of Naan I ate yesterday at the buffet at Jai Ho Indian Cuisine in Tampa. I like this restaurant and as you can read, from the number of plates and Naan, I do like their food. There were about 12 varying types of dishes, including Goat Curry to choose from…and I chose everything, six-times. What can I say? T’ain’t too fancy and I try to get there at least once every couple of months and I do pig out on Naan.

Tried something for the first time. I read this and it worked. “Give bananas a longer life. Keep bananas fresher, longer by wrapping the end of the bunch with plastic wrap. Better yet, separate each banana. The plastic wrap blocks ethylene gases from releasing out of the stem, consequently ripening the fruit too fast.

Day 325 – (AD 755) – 21.9 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Over 7,000 Miles On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Radar just looks damn bored…

Today I pedaled another 21.9 miles on my Schwinn 170. And yesterday I obviously was not paying attention.

Yesterday I reached a total of 7,000.3 miles in the 3rd part of my journey. My totals now are 15,639.3 miles; 25,169.1 kilometers.

No, and I repeat, I am not using the same Lasseter Highway road image over and over again. I actually go to the point on Google Maps where I virtually stop and “call-up” the associated image for that location.

I cannot imagine the Google employee you makes sure that that corresponding film is lined up with the matching road point.

Early this morning, at about 3:00 am, my Bright House Internet download was down to 4.0 something Mbps and it looked like the server was routed through Detroit. I'm supposed to be getting 190 Mbps. After waiting on the phone, my cell phone, due to that fact that the land line was not working, for 22 minutes I finally began talking to a human being. The whole of Central Florida was slowed down to the Detroit snail pace.

The representative’s knowledge was not too, too affirming. But as soon as we were talking the download speed sped up to 170 plus and it appeared to be directed back through a Tampa server. And this got me to wondering.

What the hell are we all going to do if there were to be a general slowdown and/or black out? Not sure whether I could remember how to use a dial up phone.

Question – If I am a Tampa Bright House customer and my Network download speed is 170.87 Mbps and my upload speed is 11.65 Mbps and if my next door neighbor is also a Tampa Bright House customer getting the exact same speeds, how long would it take for me to send an email to the same neighbor next door?

And at what speed would my neighbor receive it?

Bright House representative response “Uh, uh, uh, it depends what the technician told you when you set up your package.” Huh?

I sounded like I was asking that old Algebra question – “If a train leaves Detroit at 10 pm(EST) headed west toward Chicago at 70 miles per hour and a train left Chicago (250 miles away on the track) at 9 pm (CST) headed east on the same track going 50 miles per hour, where would they collide (in terms of miles away from Detroit)?"

Last night I read on some article someplace that taking 1-2 teaspoons to 1-2 tablespoons of Apple Cider Vinegar each night could possibly reduce one’s blood sugar count by 4-6%. And so I downed 2 tablespoons last night. Guess what? My count results jumped up 10 points, a grand total of 9%. Hah! Just call me a guinea pig in reverse.

Day 324 – (AD 754) – 22.1 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Again On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 22.1 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals – 15,617.4 miles; 25,133.8 kilometers.

I am currently and still on the Lasseter Highway, (I wonder if I will ever get someplace else), in the Northern Territory.

In about 31 miles I will have to make a decision.  Which way do I go?

I have completed 66.7% of my Part III of this crazy Jim’s Trek. And hell I’m just going to keep going. Do you realize that I have now been cycling, virtually, in Australia for about 11 months?

I try following the road signs...but only in Louisiana.

I've been thinking about my inspiration for a new quilt design.  I am currently learning to create a segmented picture with CorelDraw.  And I always turn to Scott Hilburn.
