Day 219 – (AD 1,381) – 22.0 Miles – Jim’s Trek Part V – No Skittles On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled my Schwinn 170 another 22.0 miles. Totals now: 29,300.1 miles; 47,154.0 kilometers.

And I have now completed 53.7%, 263.1 miles, of the distance to my next destination and goal point. Overall, I have now completed 33.1% of my total expected distance on Mars.

Yes, my weakness is Skittles. I can go months, years without having Skittles, without any craving. But put a bag of Skittles, an opened bag of Skittles in front of me, there is no will-power that will allow me to only eat 1 Skittle. And I bought a bag of Red, White, and Blue Skittles. I was being patriotic for the 4th of July. And yes, I kept shoving them down my throat. I could not help myself.

And yes, my early morning blood sugar count jumped 59 mg/dL to 179 on the first day after I had chomped down on some Skittles. Two days later I repeated the Skittles’ thing. My early morning blood sugar jumped up, this morning, to 171, up 17 points from the day before. So much for the Red, White, and Blue.

My suppers the last two evenings have been somewhat decent. Yes, the Tomatoes and the Cucumbers were from my Garden Tower.

Chicken with Cucumber served with Bulgur Wheat… This is my introduction to Bulgur Wheat.

And Sambal Glazed Eggplant and Shrimp served with Jasmine Rice.

Click on the above links to see how easy these two dishes were to make.

You can follow my new genealogy posting at A Genealogy Hunt. Part 902bk – Brunhammer Katz – Who was GG-Grandmother Marie (née Katz) Brunhammer’s Father?

And today I am trying to answer the question “Who is Charles Custer?”

Day 218 – (AD 1,380) – 20.2 Miles – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I pedaled 20.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals are now at 29,278.1 miles; 47,118.6 kilometers.

And I have completed 49.2% of the distance to Tisia Valles.

I have now been pedaling my Schwinn Fitness cycle now for 1,380 days. I began this crazy journey on December 2, 2012. Is it possible that I have begun to get bored?

Checked my biorhythms at Façade.com - http://www.facade.com/biorhythm/.

My Intellectual cycle is almost at minus 100%. This could explain my boredom.

Today’s distance marks off more miles to my next destination and goal point. I have now completed 45.1%.

Fantastic News –

We just heard that our newest and latest quilt piece June 19th has been accepted as a finalist at the 23rd 2017 European Patchwork competition. Stay tuned for pictures and my write-ups at Quilts SB.

Just wondering whether one connects with living friends and family via Facebook, how does one connect with those who have passed on? The predecessor to Facebook, the Ouija board?

And another clearance by my Skin-Cancer Doctor. Three pre-things were frozen. Next checkup in 6 months. What can I say?

Just received notice of a job offer – CEO, Therapeutic Cannabis Research here in the Tampa area. Hell, I am thinking.

Yes, my last name is Smith. Yes, my initials are J.K.L. Smith. Yes, I am not related to Jayden K. Smith. Yes, one of my Grandfather was a William Smith. Yes, I do NOT have anything to do with the Jayden K. Smith’s hacker hoax.

The Facebook hacker hoax hook, (how’s that for alliteration), is a real example of fake news. And whether it is a hoax or a scam, it still intrigues me how some people still will open an unknown link via their Internet server or be taken in by a crank call.

Day 215 – (AD 1,377) – 21.5 Miles – Jim’s Trek Part V – I'm Hungry On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 21.5 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals 29,218.9 miles; 47,023.4 kilometers.

Jim’s gotta eat –

July 4th Supper - Smoked Sausage, Grilled Zucchini, and Poutine, with St. Hubert BBQ Gravy... Could not get them to deliver, so I made it myself.

I am now a convert. Last night supper – Shrimp with Tomatoes, Onions, and Peppers and Bacon over Cheese Grits. Yes, this is homemade.

I chanced upon this article – “10 delicious foods in Canada that you really need to eat”, USAToday, Courtney Sunday, Jun 28, 2017. The 10 – Nanaimo bars; Poutine; Butter tarts; Tourtiere; Beaver tails; Bannock; Smoked meat sandwiches; Montreal bagels; Maple syrup; and Peameal bacon. And I have tried 7 out of 10; made 3. And I remember Bens at the corner of Metcalfe and de Maisonneuve.

And now I am hungry.

WOW! Update - Piecing continues at a steady pace. No paper-piecing; all parts cut with our AccuQuilt design.

Day 214 – (AD 1,376) – 20.2 Miles – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day and Happy 4th of July,

This morning I started the day out and cycled 20.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. I then climbed up on the roof, (no I am not breaking into a song), to seal a leak in the seams of the roof of the lanai. Damn that roof is/was hot. My totals for today, my 1376th day of pedaling, are 29,197.4 miles; 46,988.8 kilometers.

And now I have covered 32.8 % of the distance to my next destination and goal point. To date, I have now pedaled 4,295.8 miles on Mars, Part V of Jim’s Trek.

Last night supper I tried something completely new and different – Asian Pork Skewers and Long Bean, Tomato, and Bok Choy Curry with Jasmin Rice.

Will try the Skewer things again. Sort of like a ground pork burger but much, much better.

Tonight gonna try Bar-B-Qued Sausage with Poutine.

Genealogy –

I’m now searching for the parents of Great-Grandmother Anne E. (née Walsh) Brunhammer.

Enjoy your 4th of July and don’t forget the earmuffs for the family pets.

Day 213 – (AD 1,375) – 20.5 Miles – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 20.5 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals now equal 29,177.2 miles; 46,956.2 kilometers.

I have now completed 28.7% of the distance to my next destination and goal point on Mars.

And that is the boring part.

Soapbox –

Oh well, it is the 4th of July extended weekend, and it appears that the media is making a furor over Governor Chris Christie “sunbathing” at a New Jersey beach… of which he may have had something to do with some of the state’s beach closures. “Chris Christie’s sunbathing pics clinch it: He’s stopped caring”, CNNPoliticis, Chris Cillizza, Jul 3, 2017.

“What explains it? Either Christie is actively working to destroy any political future he might have or he has simply stopped caring…Christie's only option is to be a second-wave Trump administration appointee…And, if there's anyone out there who l-o-v-e-s Christie sunbathing while the beaches are shut down, it's Trump. The President digs anyone who thumbs his nose at convention. If you can feud with the press too, well, that's a double bonus in the eyes of Trump.”

In this case, 1 + 1 may just equal 5.

I’m slowly managing my early morning blood glucose count. On June 25th, I recorded 180 mg/dL. This morning I showed 113. This is the correct direction. But I think I will not be out of the woods until I see a considerable drop in my A1c count. I need to monitor that marker for the next 90 days. Isn’t Diabetes 2 fun? Bull-shit!!!

Something to consider – Asgardia.

Asgardia: the world’s first space nation”, CNNStyle, Andrea Lo, Jun 20, 2017.

“Coming soon: a nation in space for humans. Named after a Norse mythological city of the skies, Asgardia is open to all residents on planet earth and it doesn't cost anything to join. Russian scientist Dr. Igor Ashurbeyli announced his plans to form the world's first independent nation that operates in outer space in October 2016. Since then, hundreds of thousands of people have signed up to be citizens.”

And this just may check out with the family tree that I found on Ancestry.com some time ago. Yes, their ancestors were indicated as having come from Asgard.

Work has begun on our new quilt WOW. Using the AccuQuilt Go! and our own die design, we are now constructing the center 5” blocks.

Our WOW design is beginning with 6 by 6 5” Origami Crane blocks.

Reading –

Machine Creativity Beats Some Modern Art” – MIT Technology Review, Jun 30, 2017.

“Creativity is one of the great challenges for machine intelligence. There is no shortage of evidence showing how machines can match and even outperform humans in vast areas of endeavor, such as face and object recognition, doodling, image synthesis, language translation, a vast variety of games such as chess and Go, and so on. But when it comes to creativity, the machines lag well behind.”

Which of these images were generated by a machine?

Why bother?

Not sure what happened with the accounting for my Google Pageviews during the month of June. Something is wrong somewhere. From August 2016 to May 2017 the number of Pageviewss went from 1,280 to 7,252 with a peak in January 2017 at 11,703. This June Google is recoding, to date for the month 1,120. What happened?

News –

Finally, Jeff Vinik’s vision has a name: Water Street Tampa” (Tampa Bay Times, Justine Griffin, June 27, 2017)

Great news for Tampa…

But I remember previous projects in the past 3 decades. Tampa has grown, yes, but many of the ideas have just floated on by. Austin Place, Ybor City, Westshore Boulevard, Hyde Park, just to name a few. Maybe I’ll be around for the new ones. Here’s hoping.

I think I need this house just to hang our quilts…(Yes, there are quilts on display.)

Day 206 – (AD 1,368) – 19.7 Miles Today – Jim’s Trek Part V – On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today, once again I pedaled another 19.7 miles on my Schwinn 170. I’m just wondering whether the fact that I have now reached 65 ½ years of age I seem to have slowed down somewhat on my Schwinn Fitness cycle. Totals to date 29,041.6 miles; 46,738.0 kilometers. I now have 24%, give or take, of my overall goal of 38,201.6 miles remaining…that’s 9,160.0 miles.

I reached my destination and goal point and I pedaled just a wee bit further 4.8 miles. My new destination is Tisia Valles which is, according to WolframAlpha is 490 miles from Denning Crater.

Last night’s supper, double helping dropped my early morning blood glucose count today by 43 points. Definitely positive direction to 147 mg/dL.

Spinach Penne, Shrimp, Roasted Red Pepper, Black Olives, Basil, Olive Oil, Garlic, and Chilis.

This supper is ranked on the “let’s do this one again” scorecard.

Tonight, I’m having Jamaican Patties. This is my moistest, favorite of all...
