Day 463 – (AD 893) – 22.8 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Yes I’m on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Up early this morning to run Bella to the vet, time for teeth cleaning. And so I started my pedaling a wee bit later than my usual time. I cycled another 22.8 miles this later morning on my Schwinn 170. My totals are 18,712.4 miles; 30,114.8 kilometers.

My location on the virtual part of my journey is at 70 Tallong Drive in Lake Cathie, New South Wales. Believe it or not I only have 234 more miles to go and then I have finished Australia.

And this morning, I made No-Knead Loaf #6. The house is filling with the tempting wafts of fresh-made bread.

Trying a different blend for Loaf #7: 2 ½ cups of white flour; ½ cup of whole wheat flour; and ½ cup of hemp. The experimental stages have begun; 59 more loaves to go.

Yogurt Mountain is the anti-boon to my blood sugar count. Count up 19 points…but the choices are good; some despicable orange smooth yogurt sloshed on top of lavender citrus yogurt something I can’t remember its name, topped with Maraschino cherries and blueberry fish eggs and a drizzle of wild-berry syrup. Ant there is the 9-ounces and 19 points.

Day 462 – (AD 892) – 22.5 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – 13 More Days on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I cycled 22.5 miles on my Schwinn 170. My totals to date: 18,689.6 miles; 30,078.1 kilometers.

Today, following the Google Bicycle path, I am located on Maria River Road in Crescent Head, New South Wales. As long as I follow this path I believe the little drag-on Google Map Man will disappear for a while. In other words, I don’t think that the Google Mobile group never venture out on these paths/roads.

Countdown – 286 miles. At this rate 13 more days.

Gov. Scott Walker is in. An even 20 notable (?) candidates are now running for our 2016 Presidential election. (And my dyslexia is in high gear this morning on my keyboard.) According to The Green Papers dot com there are now 550 candidates. So if there are 484 more days until the next election that means that I have to research 1.13 candidates every day ‘til then.

July 13, 2015, 8:24 am – Customs Clearance, United Clearance. Sleep Jezebel and Warhol’s Itch are still on their way to Birmingham.

No-knead loaf #6 in the make.

Day 461 – (AD 891) – 22.6 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Short Ride on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Happy Birthday CK.

I pedaled 22.6 miles this morning on my Schwinn 170; real part.

I am located somewhere on the A1 Highway in the area of Clybucca, New South Wales; virtual part.

Countdown – 309 miles.

Blood sugar – 92 mg/dL.

Supper last night a first time effort, Butter Chicken on long-grain rice with Vegetable Samosas. I added carrots, celery, and green peas over what was called for on the package. And I forgot to take an image.

Day 460 – (AD 890) – 23.2 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Puzzled on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Bloody hell, I am getting to the end of my Jim’s Trek Part III. This morning I pedaled 23.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals: 18,644.5 miles; 30,005.5 kilometers. Just take a gander at that number – 30,005.5 kilometers.

This morning I think I am located on the A1 Highway in the area of Macksville in New South Wales, I think I am. (Virtually of course.) But when I see the van on my left and then I see the street sign straight ahead “Please Limit Compression Braking” I feel like I am seeing something out of the X-Files. Does “Compression Braking” have anything to do with dimensional shift? I wonder if the driver has any clue whether s/he’s missing a portion of their van.

Countdown: 329 days. I cross the finish line in about 2 +/- weeks. Yeah!

Early morning blood sugar rang in at 98.

Guess the count has gone up again – 549 candidates for the 2016 Presidential election. Check out The Green Papers dot com.

Loaf #5
There is just something about fresh bread right out of the oven… The loaf talks to you. I mean if you put your ear close to the glorious golden crust and listen, there is sort of a crackling and crisping of little sounds that definitely sound like “Eat me.” And this morning number 5 is done. Almost didn’t make the 3 cups of white flour. I sort of topped up the 3rd cup with some whole wheat flour; I think about 1/8 of a cup.

I have 61 more to go to accomplish my habit forming routine. One bag of King Arthur emptied; 5 loaves = savings of about $15.00, and a hell of a lot of good bread.

And of course synchronicity falls into place. Today Saint of the Day is St. Benedict of Nursia and the food associated with him is poisoned bread. The story is something about the poisoned bread and a raven grabbing it and flying it away. You get the picture… Well mine’s not poisoned.

Day 459 – (AD 889) – 22.8 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Once Again on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled another 22.8 miles on my Schwinn 170. Yes this is repetitive. Period, and my totals are 18,621.3 miles; 29,968.1 kilometers. I now have got 25.22% remaining of my overall goal. I have completed close to 337% more miles than I had originally planned of my first goal; 4,257.1 miles.

Today, on this 459th day of Part III, I crossed the 10,000-mile mark on the virtual part of my Trek in Australia. I am located, headed is a more-or-less southerly direction, on the Old Pacific Highway. I am in the area of Raleigh in New South Wales.

Sometimes others may think of you as a “wee bit eccentric” but here’s to the Texas woman who will receive a settlement of $229,500 from Time Warner Cable per CCN Money.  Accordingly TWC’s robocalls pestered the lady to the tune of 153 automated calls.

Advice – keep a notebook beside your landline, or make sure you have immediate access to a Note app on your cell phone. I now wait with baited breath for the next call.

Day 458 – (AD 888) – 22.2 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – On My Schwinn 170

Good Morning,

Today I pedaled another 22.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. All told, I have now turned the pedals on my Schwinn Fitness cycles a total of 18,598.5 miles; 29,931.5 kilometers.

This morning I am at the intersection of Solitary Island Way and Bucca Road in Moonee Beach. I'm still in New South Wales, and only 338 more miles to go in this blasted Trek III.

This morning’s #4 is Whole Wheat; 2 cups white and 1 cup whole wheat, 1 1/2 tsps salt, 1/2 tsp yeast, and 1 1/2 cup lukewarm water.  Savings to date about $12.00 and 62 more to go.  And then it will be my habit.

And by the way, my early blood sugar registered in at 89 this morning.  My BMI recorded at 23.2; I'm in the normal range.

Today I volunteer at the Family History Center, (genealogy research), in Lutz.

Day 457 – (AD 887) – 22.4 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Bike Path in Barcoongere State Forest on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I cycled 22.4 miles on my Schwinn 170. My totals are now 18,576.3 miles; 28,895.7 kilometers. That’s the real part of my journey.

And today I stopped on a Google-imposed bicycle path somewhere in the south end of the Barcoongere State Forest at Dirty Creek Road. I’m New South Wales in Australia. The Google drag-on icon is still not in place.  This is the virtual part of my Trek.

Countdown – 396 more miles to go. Anticipation.

This morning was remove-the-zipper-day. We now have a used zipper toggle, slightly used for sale on eBay… obo.

I thought I would make some homemade Scrapple. I’ve made some before; ground pork and cornmeal. The batch I made was good, really good…And I then decided to look up the real ingredients for Scrapple.

According to Wikipedia – “Scrapple is typically made of hog offal, such as the head, heart, liver, and other trimmings, which are boiled with any bones attached (often the entire head), to make a broth. Once cooked, bones and fat are removed, the meat is reserved, and (dry) cornmeal is boiled in the broth to make a mush.” Hell, doesn’t that sound appetizing.

Seems that I never made Scrapple. I made pseudo-Scrapple. Mine was closer to Cincinnati Goetta, sort of. And now I have to try and make Goetta. Goetta is made primarily of ground meat, pin-head oats and spices. Well?

Travel update – Sleep Jezebel and Warhol’s Itch at 2:46 am this morning were processed through the sort facility at ISC (USPS) Miami. Birmingham, here we come.

Day 456 – (AD 886) – 23.0 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Sand on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I cycled 23.0 miles on my Schwinn 170.

And today I’m off the Google ‘drag-the-little-man-on’ map. I pedaled from 567 Brooms Head Road to Lot 24 Sandon Road.

As you can see I am right on the coast. Hell I could be right in the water. I am just north of Minnie Waters

Countdown - 421 more miles.

Number 3 prepped for the oven.

Out of the oven.

63 more to go; to become a habit.  Watch for the variations.

Early morning blood sugar at 97. The increase, the small increase could be due to the Ukrainian Kovbasa Potatoes and Sauerkraut I made last night. Supper was good and included a Corn and Arugula Salad and of course, some slices of fresh bread. But then again it could have been the late night Ginger Ale followed by the 16 ounces of Limeade. What the hell? I was thirsty,

Tonight I’m going to try and make my version of Chicken and Dumplings.

Ancestry.com is now suggesting that they have rights if one does use their site and any of their subsidiary sites. The Green Leaf is now saprophytic. Day 455 – (AD 885) – 22.7 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Never Judge A Meal by Its Plate, on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

First errand this morning, Bella to vet for blood draw. Next week she’s having her teeth cleaned.

Got home and got on my Schwinn 170. I pedaled 22.7 miles; my totals – 18,530.9 miles; 29,822.7 kilometers. And you know something; I seem to be pedaling now for 74 minutes, still at a resistance of 12. I guess that it is my anticipation of the fact that the end of Jim’s Trek III is near, and just around the corner.

I am now checking out Brooms Head Road in Gulmarrad, New South Wales.

My next errand, our two quilts – Sleep Jezebel and Warhol’s Itch have been shipped to The Festival of Quilts 2015 in England.

Sleep Jezebel - Jim Smith and Andy Brunhammer

Warhol's Itch - Jim Smith and Andy Brunhammer

The show is being held the 6th through 9th August at Halls 7, 8, & 9 at NEC, Birmingham.

My blood sugar dropped another 6 points to 90. Last night supper – Wild Mushroom and Red Pepper Stroganoff with Goat Cheese and Sun-Dried Tomato Ravioli, Smashed Potatoes and Green Peas. Except for the chicken broth it was a vegetarian meal last night. And I didn’t take any picture as I thought that my “Chopped” attempt may not have been too, too palatable. Hell, it was great and I had a double helping. I definitely would attempt that production again.

Day 454 – (AD 884) – 22.9 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Counting Down on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I pedaled 22.29 miles on my Schwinn 170. My totals: 18,805.2 miles; 29,786.1 kilometers.

And I am located, virtually, on the A1 in the area of Tabbimoble in New South Wales.

Countdown – 468 miles.

Something to do the day after the 4th of July. Go to Ikea and hide in a cabinet, when someone opens it up say "Welcome to Narnia."

No-knead bread baking this morning. Just wondering.  How many days do I continue and then this becomes a required and fixed routine? According to Ben D Gardner, in his UCL articleBusting the 21 days habit formation myth” - “The bottom line is: stay strong. 21 days is a myth; habit formation typically takes longer than that. The best estimate is 66 days, but it’s unwise to attempt to assign a number to this process.

Well I think I’ve proved my cycling habit … and so I will be making 66 loaves of bread; 2 down 64 more to go.

No-Knead Loaf - #2

Oh yeah my early morning blood sugar count registered at 96.

This morning I read an article at Tech Times by Dianne Depra – “Study Shows Bariatric Surgery More Effective Than Lifestyle Changes in Treating Type 2 Diabetes”. And of course I’m interested…and I read the complete article twice.

Here’s the clincher, the title is somewhat misleading. Buried in the middle of the article is the crux of the study, the size of the sampling, (no pun intended), the number of participants was only 61 persons and about at least 50% “categorized as having class 1 obesity.” Period.

A suggested result of the study is that “Class 1 and 2 obesity are defined as having body mass indexes from 30 to 39. However, weight loss surgeries are only typically advised for people with BMI levels of at least 40.” I’m not disputing the study. I am just wondering whether the reporter reporting the study in Tech Times as published in the Journal of the American Medical Association may be misleading her readers.

Guess what? My BMI this morning recorded in at 23.7. And I’ve succeeded at quashing my diabetes by “lifestyle intervention”. Okay, okay, I am strange.

Blue line is my 90-day, eAG, moving average.

Today is special.  There are two saints of the day: Saint Anthony Mary Zaccaria and Saint Elizabeth of Portugal… And today the special and blessed recipe is Strawberry Cake. Only thing is that when I read the recipe it sounds more like a bread recipe…but “a special cake, a glorified strawberry shortcake, a descendant of the French apricot rum cake.” And the ingredients do not include strawberries, apricots, or rum. But it does have a suggested “For Ages: 15+”. Huh? Sort of like some interpretation of scripture.

But I do like the idea of soaking the cake in rum sauce and then topping it with strawberries and a strawberry glaze. Sounds like a Baba-au Rhum. Think I will add this one to my bucket list of recipes to make.

Day 453 – (AD 883) – 22.4 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – 4th of July on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Happy 4th of July.

And yes I still got on my Schwinn 170. This morning I pedaled 22.4 miles. My totals are now recorded: 18,485.3 miles; 29,749.3 kilometers.

My Jim’s Trek Part III total is now 131.8 miles short of 10,000 miles over the combined total of both Jim’s Trek Part I and II, 8,617.1 miles.

This morning I am still headed in a southerly direction and I am trying to hug the eastern coast in New South Wales. I reached Lot 212 on the Pacific Highway somewhere in the area of East Wardell.

Countdown to my finish line – 491 miles.

Well my retry into making the No-Knead Bread was a bust.  After waiting 18 hours my dough didn’t rise. I incorrectly read the expiry date on the package. It was 2003. I was only off by 10 years. Guess that yeast lost its use some time ago; would you say? Bought some new yeast and started again. Check Jim’s Gotta Eat for my bread experience.

And my early morning blood sugar registered down another 6 points at 95.

Questions – Does finger-nail art take a long time to apply? And does one wear/apply this are for longer than a day or couple of days? Does this mean that coordinating outfits and accessories should be red, white, and blue?

Day 452 – (AD 882) – 22.8 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Still on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 22.8 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals – 18,462.9 miles; 29,713.2 kilometers, that’s the real part of the journey.

And, virtually, I have stopped on The Coast Road somewhere near Broken Head Road in New South Wales.  Countdown - 513 miles.

The FEC number of 2016 Presidential candidate filings has jumped to 441 plus 1 – Jim Webb. (He’s not on the list yet.).

100 Republicans;
73 + 1 Democrats;
117 Independents;
22 Unknowns;
11 Write-In;
5 Green Party;
41 Other;
11 Unaffiliated;
12 Libertarians;
3 Independence Party;
3 American Party;
4 Constitutional Party;
1 AME;
1 HEL;
1 A99;
1 Communist Party;
2 NBC;
21 None; and
12 No Party

And yes I do like food, but sometimes I do reach a limit. Gourmet Foie Gras Bubble Gum at $4.95 a tin. And accordingly the “Foie Gras Bubble Gum tastes like extra fatty duck or goose liver!” Not sure if I would venture there.

Work continues on our Hope Cranes. Numbers 31 through 42 have roosted.

Hope - Crane #31

Hope - Cranes #32 - 42

And we have completed the design for our new quilt Roo Royale. Fabrics chosen and all parallelograms have been cut.

Roo Royale

Trying to make some No-Knead Bread; definitely have made this before.

Simple: flour, yeast, salt, and water. Mix the ingredients and let it rest for 12 to 18 hours. Only thing is that the yeast I am using may be a wee bit old…I think the expiry date on the package is sometime about 2013. I’ll see. Early morning blood sugar registered at 101

Day 451 – (AD 881) – 22.2 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Counting Down 27 Days on My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I pedaled another 22.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals – 18,440.1 miles; 29,676.5 kilometers.

I am now located on Rajah Road at Ocean Shore in New South Wales. Only about 540 more miles to go; just 27 more days. I’m actually pedaling an additional 60 plus or minus miles as I am using the Google Cycling Beta map as a guide for my Trek on the final leg of my journey in Australia.

And Tinker is trying to figure out whether there is room in my lap.

Early morning blood sugar count dropped 5 points to 102. Supper last night, Taylor Pork Roll Nachos – Taylor Pork Roll, Corn Chips, 4-Blend Cheese, Fried Black Beans, Salsa, Grilled Onions, JalapeƱos, Tomatoes, Black Olives, and Sour Cream.

Thought of the day – When visiting a podiatrist and having your foot-bottom examined, make sure not to cross legs on the examination table. A left foot in a right foot position could be the one a script may be targeted…accidentally.

Saint for the day is St. Oliver Plunkett of Ireland. And you all thought there was only St. Patrick? Just remember Saint of the Day is now available on the iPhone. Android version users have to wait a bit longer in limbo. It’s on its way.
