Day 75 – Jim’s Trek – Another 20.0 Miles – Now into Indiana

Good Day,

This morning I leave Kentucky. My 20.0 miles takes me across the Ohio River into Indiana. I am now located just south of Lincoln State Park and about 27.0 miles from my next Interlake address goal. I’m now looking for my succeeding Interlake goal on my Trek on my Schwinn 150 to Seattle. Think I found one akin to a car…

My stats –

Total Direct Miles to Seattle   To Date TD Miles Remaining   % TD Miles Completed   Interlake Miles Left to Seattle   Weight (lbs)
3,301.0 1,150.6 2,150.4 34.86% 4,848.7 165.4

And right now I am just 10 miles from the town of Santa Claus, Indiana, population about 2,500. I could stop over and deliver my list. Maybe.

Today is National Almond Day… And yes there is an Almond Blossom Festival held on the last weekend in February in Ripon, California. Close enough. And if you’re in New York City you can get your almonds to celebrate at a number of Nut Shops.

I finished watching the second part of The American. Definitely a Clooney cat-and-mouse thriller… but I’m not sure that I was able to hone in on the reason for the story line. Stay tuned for my retorts on the next movie and or serial.

Be healthy, and enjoy,

Jim

Day 73 – Jim’s Trek – 20 More Miles – Dong Po and Thai Cucumber Salad Plus

Good Day,

My Trek’s 20 miles has me on US 60 Highway somewhere near Cloverport, Kentucky on the banks of the Ohio River. The recent population is somewhere in the vicinity of 1,300. On my Trek on my Schwinn 150 at times I seem to go back in time, especially with my work on A Genealogy Hunt… and I go looking.

The inserted image is of the 1928-29 Cloverport High School Sophomore Class discovered at the USGEnWeb Archives Project for Kentucky.  Wave to the cyclist as he passes by.

Total miles to date 1,110.6 and just about 67 miles to my next Interlake goal.

Decided that I’ve got to stop eating… I don’t mean that I need to fast or starve, but I find that with the cycling I’m eating one hell of a lot more, all the time. I decided that I better get back to my Asian cuisines. Last night I made, for supper, Dong Po which is marinated and braised Pork-belly, with Stir-fry snow peas, bean sprouts, and jalapeños and a side Thai cucumber salad. Damn was it good. Invitations are in the mail.

This morning I couldn’t find the next episode of Continuum. I began a lecture series – The Joy of Thinking: The Beauty and Power of Classical Mathematical Ideas. Yup, I’m still a nerd… The first lecture – Great Ideas that Bring Our World into Focus was an introduction… Boring to some, definitely not as fast paced as Continuum. But, and through the 30 minutes of the lecture, I kept thinking of my hidden agenda as an application to my Quilt SB designs. Okay, Okay even at my age, I still have to keep learning, exercising my brain and body.

Be healthy and enjoy,

Jim

Day 72 – Jim’s Trek – 20 More Miles

Good Day,

Today I’m headed northwest on KY-86 W toward Henry Head/Jesse Priest Road. It’s another 20 miles on my Trek on my Schwinn 150, and I’m still on my way. I’m now just about 87 miles from my next Interlake address goal.

My stats –

Total Direct Miles to Seattle   To Date TD Miles Remaining   % TD Miles Completed   Interlake Miles Left to Seattle   Weight (lbs)
3,301.0 1,090.6 2,210.4 33.04% 4,908.7 165.4

Not much to write about today… Just getting my Trek done and checking what I need to do.

Continuum is back. No more Upstairs Downstairs. The episode of Continuum is based on the time paradox of what would happen if something in one’s past changed, would it affect something in that person’s future. Not sure, if this episode of Continuum answered the theory.

Be healthy, and enjoy,

Jim

Day 71 - Jim's Trek - Reese's Pieces

Good Day,

I think winter has by-passed Tampa this year. The Amarylls are beginning to bloom in the front garden and the oak trees are filling out.

Not sure if this is positive or what, but allowing my mind to be preoccupied with a visual stimulus of a serial on the TV certainly diminishes the boredom of the effort of the actual cycling on my Schwinn 150.

Today I completed another 20 miles. But I haven’t as yet completed it in one hour. I’m still a number of minutes over. My goal is to be consistent at 20 miles in one hour. And yes, I gotta speed up.

Today I’ve made it just past Long Grove Road along Hardinsburg Road. I believe I’m near someplace in Kentucky called Cecilia. I think it is one of those types of places that if you blink you've actually passed on through.

Local Natives performing Cecilia by Simon and Garfunkel

My miles to date are 1,070.6, and I’m still going. My belly is still at 38”, 6 inches less of when I started 71 days ago. I won’t tell you my goal in this area, but I’m just wondering if I will ever hit it. Not bad exercise for a 61-year old.

And today, Tuesday, February 12th is Extraterrestrial Culture Day. This celebration is officially acknowledged in New Mexico… you know the place where Roswell is located. But I have a mental issue with this one, not New Mexico of course, but with the fact that it is the celebration of the culture of extraterrestrials. Did I miss the memo that we had finally encountered alien beings? Was I asleep? Who signed up for space being culture? Wonder if this is somehow in tune with Mardi Gras in New Orleans? Just asking.

And I have another quandary. I understand the Red Beans and Rice, Jambalya, Chorizo and Seafood Gumbo for the Mardi Gras table… But what will I serve for an Extraterrestrial Culture Celebration? The only thing I can find is a recipe for an Extraterrestrial Cocktail – equal parts of Bailey’s Irish Cream, Midori Liqueur, Vodka, and High Proof Rum. A couple of these, and I will be cycling to Mars.

Well I’ve traveled through, on my Schwinn 150, the final contracted episode of Upstairs Downstairs. Germany has invaded Poland and I want more of the serial. Guess I’ll go back to my next episode of Continuum.

The top to Blumish Two is now complete, We are now machine appliquéing the navy blue strips to the top. Check out progress at Quilts SB.

Be healthy, and enjoy,

Jim

Day 70 – Jim’s Trek – And I’m Keeping at 20.0 Miles A Day

Good Day,

Today I completed my 20.0 miles on my Schwinn 150. I am headed in a northwesterly direction toward my next Interlake address goal point. Today’s location finds me on Old Elizabethtown Road just past Campbellsville University.

This morning my ride was over within my allocated time. My total to date 1,050.6 miles… (That is 1,691 kilometers Ms. M. up there in the cold hinterland.)

Even though I’ve been pretty constant with my weight, I know that I need to watch what I am eating. It seems so simple, and the cravings are much more with the daily cycling. I figured that I would start a straight out-and-out diet, Mr. M.S and Ms. M. W.. And I’m sure licking the plate would help a quicker reduction of my gut. But I reneged. I only made some rice and peas, and added just two Jamaican patties for supper last night.

Guaranteed Diet

Not so guaranteed, but so damn good diet.

Admiral the Hon. Sir Reginald Aylmer Ranfurly Plunkett-Ernle-Erle-Drax, KCB, DSO, JP, DL alias Admiral Acronym is introduced as a character, sans actor, in Upstairs Downstairs. There is now intrigue at 165 Eaton Place as England is on the brink of war. And I believe that there is only one more episode.

Be healthy and enjoy,

Jim

Day 69 – Jim’s Trek – 20.0 Miles – #9 Interlake Goal Reached

Good Day,

This morning I reached my #9 Interlake address goal in Campbellsville, Kentucky on my Schwinn 150 Trek to Seattle. I also surpassed my 1,000 miles goal.

My Interlake goal is Interlake Lane on the right side of the image.

I made a couple of mistakes yesterday when I announced that I had reached my 1,000 mark. Actually I had only reached 999.2 miles. Whoops. Today with my 20.0 miles I superseded the 1,000 mile goal. My total miles to date, (yesterday I took from another column of my calculations), is now 1,019.2 miles.

Back on the road this morning the location reached is, headed northwest, on Hodgenville Road. I just passed by Social Band Road. I am now on way to my next Interlake address goal, another 146 miles.

And my corrected stats –

Total Direct Miles to Seattle   To Date TD Miles Remaining   % TD Miles Completed   Interlake Miles Left to Seattle   Weight (lbs)
3,301.0 1,019.2 2,270.4 31.22% 4,968.7 166.6

And again I’m a wee bit confused, which of course isn’t too difficult to do, but when putting my Upstairs, Downstairs DVDs away I discovered that I still had three more episodes. I wonder if there is some type of supplement that I can take to improve my mental capacity. I know now that my biorhythms were at a low point these past couple of days.

In this episode of Upstairs Downstairs there is a strong involvement in pugilism and the involvement and participation by all classes. I never understood the Rocky mentality. But I guess I will have to check into some mental acuity, albeit some brain fitness exercising.

Be healthy and enjoy,

Jim

Day 68 – Jim’s Trek – And I’ve Reached the 1,000 Mile

Good Day,

Today’s total, to date 1,010.6 miles. Clock up another 20 miles on my Schwinn 150 Trek. Another goal has hit the road… so-to-speak. 30% of my straight line, on my Schwinn 150, Tampa to Seattle goal is now completed.

My Trek has turned to the south, a complete opposite direction from my route to Seattle. I am at Hodgenville Road at the corner of State Highway 793. I’m on the outskirts of Greensburg, Kentucky; population about 2,400.

My stats this morning –

Total Direct Miles to Seattle   To Date TD Miles Remaining   % TD Miles Completed   Interlake Miles Left to Seattle   Weight (lbs)
3,301.0 1,010.6 2,290.4 30.6% 4,988.7 166.4

Trying to understand why the Google Intellegent Learn Something News, apart from the fact that the word Intelligent is spelled incorrectly, believes that of the 20 headlines, presented to read to become “intellegent”, six of the articles concern the New England snow storm. At least this time only one article highlighted is about sports. Whew…

From Urban Dictionary - 1. intellegent.  Misspelling of the word intelligent.  Since you're here, good job misspelling intelligent.  U guyz, im totally gonna go see if i spelt intellegent right on urbandictionary!

Last night I did make a smoked sausage and bok choy hash. Certainly not bad, especially as I have only ever cooked bok choy with Asian spices and additions… Obviously the carbohydrate levels were pretty low, my blood sugars were damn good this morning.

Another member of the cast of Continuum literally drops in from time. Guess his clock was running a bit slow. I suppose this episode is presenting more shreds of evidence for me, the viewer, to tie in what has already been presented. It’s definitely not a show that one can just jump in at any subsequent episode… One needs to start at the beginning.

Just wondering why the Melbourne IAS, aka the International Association of Scientologists new video uses a fake Elvis? I thought Mr. Presley actually countered publicly against Scientology. Wonder if it is couth to create a market campaign laden with lies? The video, as reported via The Huffington Post, is a plug for more financial donations.

The schematic top of Blumish Two has been sewn together. We’re both very pleased at where the final quilt result is headed. Stay tuned to Quilts SB for updates.

Day 67 – Jim’s Trek – Almost, Almost, Just About Almost

Good Day,

And today’s miles, another 20.0. Total to date 990.6 miles and still in Kentucky. I’m on the Legrande Highway and have just crossed over Oil Field Road.

I’m somewhere near a place called Horse Cave. I’m 31 miles from my next goal.

Horse Cave, Kentucky

1940

2006

This morning I really did not want to get on my Schwinn 150, and I asked myself the question “Jim, could I just write and not cycle?” I only just asked the question. I did get on my Schwinn and I did complete my 20 miles.

And now I understand the blah feelings. I just checked my biorhythms. All my primary and secondary rhythms are below 0%. Say what? Am I supposed to be feeling all these damn blahs? Guess I’ll keep a low profile.

Supper tonight will be an attempt of a combination of smoked sausage and bok choy. Stay tuned until tomorrow to find if there’s a thumbs up or down.

On this episode of Continuum the bad guys have been harvesting human pituitary glands. Weird. I’m trying to figure out that as the numbers of the bad guys begin to decrease how the series will continue along on its own continuum. Gotta find Episode 4 next.

Be healthy, and enjoy, I think. My Trek continues.

Day 66 – Jim’s Trek – No Texting and Cycling

Good Day,

And it was an accident… I was texting while I was cycling on my Schwinn 150, absorbed by the end of Continuum. I then looked down and my gauge had registered 20.0 miles. Absent-mindedly I hit my goal. It appears that I will now have to reduce my time frame from 1 hour and 8 minutes down the 8 minutes.

This morning I definitely headed west, in the opposite direction from Seattle, and I’m on Louisville Road, just about at the Old Dixie Highway Loop. Country road, not much traffic… nice. Just ahead is Park City, Kentucky. Park City is nearby Mammoth Cave National Park and Diamond Caverns.

My stats this morning –

Total Direct Miles to Seattle   To Date TD Miles Remaining   % TD Miles Completed   Interlake Miles Left to Seattle   Weight (lbs)
3,301.0 970.6 2,330.4 29.4% 5,028.7 163.8

Fox News Tampa is at it again… The report is of a Deputy Sherriff who accidently shot himself at a local shooting range. Does this compare with the top sniper’s death at a Texas shooting range? Texas or Florida what’s the difference? Yeah!!! Fox News Tampa has their comparative “national” story…

And the State of Florida is finally considering a no texting while driving law. I wonder if the ding-bats in Tallahassee will consider a smart move for once??? Anyone for a bet?

I think I sort of eat this way. For every new food you eat, you gain seven days of life. Japanese Saying. Ancient Wisdom, Modern Kitchen: Recipes from the East for Health, Healing, and Long Life by Yuan Wang, Warren Sheir, Mika Ono. Does it mean that I will live to 2051?

And of course my favorite show on network TV is Chopped. Last night I decided that I needed to do something with leftover rotisserie chicken and collard greens. Now I cheat… I enter the following: leftover chicken and collard greens into a Google search looking for a possible dinner recipe. I found the following on a Fox online site - Kairos Collard Green Soup. The recipe was courtesy of James K Jones from Kairos Kafe in Birmingham, Alabama.

It really turned out quite good, and I would make it again. Left-over rotisserie chicken, collard greens, chicken broth, bacon, onions, carrots, celery, garlic, white pepper, cayenne pepper, celery seed, olive oil, and half-and-half. The soup/chowder with garlic cheese biscuits, and due to my Trek I’m indulging myself more… My weight this morning in at 163.8 pounds; I’m maintaining.

Continuum, Episode 2 focuses on the crooks and the good cop wanting to get back to the future. Simon Fraser University has what they need… sort of.

Be healthy, and enjoy,

Jim

Day 65 – Jim’s Trek – The Continuum

Good Day,

This morning my Trek on my Schwinn 150 veers to the east at Bowling Green, Kentucky. I am currently, at my 19.5 mile mark on the Louisville Road toward River Place Avenue. Total to date 950.6 miles. There about 71 miles to my next goal… Should do that in about four days.

House next door had a meeting. Wonder why the John-Crows keep congregating on this street?

Last night I had a craving for Shrimp Scampi with Linguini… Didn’t have any linguini in the house but I had all the other ingredients and a half box of spaghetti. Flat versus round, still tastes the same, and even as I am not a pasta connoisseur it tasted quite good… and satisfied my yearning. I was so hungry that I didn’t take a picture of the dish, but here’s what it looked like sort of, thanks to The Family Kitchen.

New series – The Continuum – Law and Order meets Jules Verne’s The Time Machine meets Total Recall meets Judge Dredd. And of course, gang warfare meets terrorists. The year is 2076 and then it is 2012 and takes place in Vancouver, British Columbia. On the SyFy network and kept my interest, and supposedly there are a tentative 23 episodes. Bingo…

Work continues on Blumish Two. 30 of 49 blocks completed. Stay tuned for updates.

Be healthy and enjoy,

Jim

Day 64 – Jim’s Trek – 19.5 Miles – I’m Looking For My Kentucky Home

Good Day,

On Day 64 I am now have cycled into the State of Kentucky. I am on the Veterans’ Memorial Highway and headed in a northerly direction. I’m just about Johnson Road. This morning my Trek led me through Scottsville, Kentucky.

Today I’ve racked up on my Schwinn 150 931.1 miles.

My stats this morning –

Total Direct Miles to Seattle   To Date TD Miles Remaining   % TD Miles Completed   Interlake Miles Left to Seattle   Weight (lbs)
3,301.0 931.1 2,369.9 28.21% 5,068.2 165.4

And of course Tampa Fox wants to know… Damn, they don’t miss a thing. Fox Tampa is now asking if the delay at the Superbowl could happen in Tampa at the Raymond James Stadium. Why do they, that is Fox News, believe that Tampa needs to be on par with disasters and pseudo-disasters around the world?

And then they had the audacity to immediately follow with a report that Tampa Electric Company is asking for a rate change. They want more money for the power.

Supper last night was Sous-vide sirloin steak, a scallop of potatoes, and a mix of carrots, onions, shallots, and peas. First time I’ve ever attempted a potato scallop with extremely paper-thin sliced potatoes parboiled in milk and topped with Gruyère cheese.

Today’s episode of Upstairs, Downstairs dealt with a plethora of women’s issues that are touched on in 1939. And then I discovered that a continuation of the new series of Upstairs Downstairs, as of April 2012, was not renewed. Damn! Now I have to find a video companion. Any suggestions?

Working on Blumish Two and Cosmos’ Moon. Interesting work and both different as night from day. Check out our updates at Quilts SB.

Be healthy, and enjoy,

Jim
