Day 339 – (AD 769) – 21.7 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Dancing On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

It is cold and raining, and did I say... it is cold here in Tampa. Right now it is 66.0° F. And that is bloody cold to this 31-year native.

But the orchids are blooming.

And so are the roses.

Well I switched things up a bit today. I thought that I would postpone cycling on my Schwinn 170. I decided to run some errands first. But the gumption took over and I then got on my fitness cycle.

I pedaled another 21.7 miles on my Schwinn 170. I wonder what this does mean. I am still hooked, ya think?

My grand total to date is now 15,945.6 miles; 25,662.0 kilometers.

And the road still is not paved. I am located on Plenty Highway headed in an easterly direction and cycling, virtually, that is, parallel to Plenty River. But hell there is one heck a lot of red dirt.

Today’s viewing companion, while I was cycling, certainly kept me going with the beat of the background music. I was transported back to my late teens and the times when I used to venture out and dance the night away. I would be nice, but I have to be careful for what I wish.

The quilting work continues on our new Chopsticks quilt.

And we have begun the elementary designs of a new project. We’re calling it the Post-it Network.

This one should prove something completely different once again.

The canvases to both our Reflection and our new commission Moon Over Bayshore have been completed.  Our commission TBAJ is finished.  We're just waiting for the time of day.

Day 338 – (AD 768) – 22.0 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Live Long and Prosper On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I cycled another 22.0 miles on my Schwinn 170. It appears that I am averaging now 20.7 miles per day since I began this crazy trek on December 2, 2012; 804 days ago. I have rested a grand total of 36 days.

And in 27 days I will have been pedaling for 1 complete year on my Jim’s Trek III; the Australia part.

Today I am still located somewhere in the middle of nowhere on Plenty Highway in the Northern Territory in Australia.

I have received a couple of inquiries as to where do I sleep while I am on Jim’s Trek. Of course there is an obvious answer, but before I decide to answer the question I thought I would show you on of my possibilities.

This one is for C&P.

Question, is our glorious and ignoble Governor Rick Scott intending to turn the State of Florida into the state of convenience and corner stores?

He’s currently in Philadelphia schmoozing the owners of Wawa Food Markets. It appears that if he’s offering to rename a town Wawa, he’ll have to contend with towns renamed 7-11 and Circle K. According to Orlando Weekly, February 26.

Gov. Rick Scott tries to woo Wawa by offering to name a Florida town after convenience store chain.” Try saying that fast three times.
“Scott declined to name what other companies he courted during the brief incursion to the city at the confluence of the Delaware and Schuylkill rivers

But Scott plans further business-development missions. Trips are expected to Massachusetts, the home to Cumberland Farms; New York, which headquarters the Dairy Barn and Stewart's Shop chains of regional convenience stores; and Illinois, where people can fuel and food up at Road Ranger shops and Fast N Fresh Stores.”

On the other hand, in case of emergency evacuation from a hurricane path and rising water-levels, one will be able to follow the route north by choice of gas and hoagie vendors.

Day 337 – (AD 767) – 21.7 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Yes It is a Graded Road On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

When I stumble out of bed and run outside to drop a couple of items into the outside containers for today’s garbage pick-up. I kept hearing a bell sound indicating that a load in the washer had completed its cycle. I was a bit confused. I couldn’t remember if I had slept-walked and completed some laundry.

I believe that there is a bird playing havoc with my early morning brain. This bird was tweeting exactly on the key the same signal, albeit beep, that my Bosch seems to emit when the load is done. Hell, I must have looked extremely dazed and confused. Damn…but bloody smart bird. Must have been a mockingbird.Or could it be a Mockingjay?

This morning, after shaking the bird song out of my head and starting a new load of laundry I got on my Schwinn 170 and pedaled 21.7 miles. I have now reached beyond the 15,900-mile-mark; actually 15,901.9; 25,591.7 kilometers.

Yes I believe the road is graded...but it certainly does not look paved, or much for the wear-and-tear of traffic jams. I am headed east on the Plenty Highway and still in the Northern Territory.

Well I got my early morning blood sugar to drop 13 points to 106 mg/dL. Obviously last night supper had one hell of lot to do with the reduction. I was able to create a meal of Yemenite Cod in Spicy Tomato Sauce and a Turnip and Carrot in Sour Cream Salad. This one goes to the top of the class… I’m not a food stager or photographer but image aside; I WOULD definitely recreate this one again. Did I ever say that I love food?

Day 336 – (AD 766) – 22.2 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Eat My Dust On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I pedaled another 22.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. Totals – 15,880.2 miles; 25,556.8 kilometers. I’m keeping up with the 15/25 resistance and I burned 666 calories.

(Yes I do know that number.)

As you can see I appear, in my virtual trek, to be in the middle of nowhere in The Outback. And I guess I am so far out that the road does not look like it is paved.

Check out the haze of dust emanating from the back of the Google Mobile.

And I suppose I could create a bike-a-mower, but I would have to do some neighbors yards to keep up with my daily exercise routine.

Let’s just hope that this is a reality -

Senior Republicans conceded Tuesday that the grueling fight with President Barack Obama over the regulation of Internet service appears over, with the president and an army of Internet activists victorious… The FCC plan would let the agency regulate Internet access as if it is a public good. It would follow the concept known as Net neutrality or an open Internet, banning so-called paid prioritization — or fast lanes — for willing Internet content providers. In addition, it would ban the intentional slowing of the Internet for companies that refuse to pay broadband providers. The plan would also give the FCC the power to step in if unforeseen impediments are thrown up by the handful of giant companies that run many of the country’s broadband and wireless networks.

As Republicans concede, FCC is expected to enforce Net neutrality

Day 335 – (AD 765) – 21.9 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – One Lane On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

I am writing Jim’s Trek late this afternoon. After I finished my pedaling I decided that I would spend an hour pressure washing the pool deck and cage struts. The plan was to do a bit every day for the next week. Well my one hour turned into 5 hours. It’s spring time in Tampa. I still have a little bit of the deck to complete…and the wooden boardwalk down the side of the house. Guess I got quite a workout today. Praise be that our Tampa one day of winter is over.

This morning I pedaled 21.9 miles on my Schwinn 170. My totals are: 15,858.0 miles; 25,521.0 kilometers. I burned 677 calories in 68 minutes.

On the Plenty Highway I am located now just east past Gillen Creek and the Gem Tree Caravan Park. I’m still in the Northern Territory. And yes I think it is a two-lane highway.

Following this trek it will take me about 290 more miles, about 2 weeks when I finally cross over from the Northern Territory into Queensland. And then I will be pedaling another 421 miles to get to my next destination and goal point.

I think I should get in touch with Yi Longli, and trade in my Schwinn 170 for his The Number One Car in the World.

Day 334 – (AD 764) – 21.3 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Yes This is a Back Road On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

I pedaled 21.3 miles this morning on my Schwinn 170.

I increased the resistance on my fitness cycle from 12/25 to 15/25. Even though I reduced my time on the bike by 6 minutes to 66 minutes I burned 658 calories this session. Hopefully this, over time, will help me to reduce my belly measurement by 2 more inches.

And my virtual journey has me now located on Plenty Highway.

Damn, this is back-road. I wonder if the last time anyone actually was on this “highway” was closer to this date than the March 2008 date of the Google Maps image.

Wrote my morning pages this first thing, which is in following with Julia Cameron’s The Artist Way.  I do not use longhand.  I use my keyboard.  The software 750Words classified me at 8:07 am as an “Affectionate Extrovert”. Hell if I know what that means.

Early morning blood sugar dropped 7 points this morning to 114 mg/dL; 6.33 mmol/L. It’s a start. No late night snacking minus 1.

Yes I was taken aback by Lady Gaga’s medley of songs from the Sound of Music at the Oscars last night. Methinks that that young Lady will not slowly fade into the vinyl and electronic past none too soon. (I hope what I just wrote isn’t a double negative.)

And back again to my diet plan. I think that I can add, from South Korea, some Low Calorie Diet Water.

Day 333 – (AD 763) – 22.1 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Plenty Highway On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 22.1 miles on my Schwinn 170. And my total to date – 15,814.8 miles; 25,451.5 kilometers.

Here's where I'm at, if you are following along.
Today I am now turned off Stuart Highway on to Plenty Highway. I am headed in a northeasterly direction and I am headed further into The Outback to a virtual land that I haven’t got a clue where I am going. I do know where my next destination is but it will be one hell of a journey as a drag the Google plotter along the way.

I suppose I could have stayed on the regular highways, but I want some adventure in my virtual and fantasy life. Give or take, as the crow flies, I think I have about 1,060 miles to go to get to my next destination and goal point.

My snacking at night is getting out of hand, I think. I could just clean out the kitchen of all the finger food and things but that is not necessarily going to help my self-control. My blood sugar count this morning was up to 121…and I most certainly want to blame the battery in the glucose monitor. But I measured my waist as well and it looks like my belly measurement is up 2 inches to 34”. Damn. I could blame the extra year I added 2 months ago.

Could have also been the supper I concocted last night Fiery Angel Hair Pasta. Check the ingredients at Jim’s Gotta Eat, to be updated soon. I do love to EAT. Period.

The canvases are completed for both our new projects, quilts and wall hangings, Reflections and Moon Over Bayshore. I will now be drawing the outline and pattern.

I will write it now. This could be a “kiss-of-death” to whomever receives the endorsement. IS this positive? Or IS it negative?

So a (Rick) Scott endorsement could have some value in a Republican primary… ‘I’m considering that,’ Scott said. ‘But here’s what I’m focused on now. I want the candidate to be somebody that’s done what we’ve done in Florida…’ ” (Palm Beach Post, George Bennett, Feb. 22, 2015)

Day 332 ½ – (AD 762 ½) – 0.0 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Just Decided to Rest By The Roadside On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today is a no-pedal day on my Schwinn 170.

The “A” marker is my current rest location in the Northern Territory in Australia.

It took me a while but working with Google Maps and the little-drag-on-man I have been able to figure out my route for the next number of days. After tomorrow I will be exiting the Stuart Highway. So I better get plenty of rest.

It will take me about 15 more days to journey through the Northern Territory and get to the next state in Australia. Finally.  After that I will pedal to a new 14th destination and goal point. That should take me another 15 plus or minus days.

We’ve got trouble in Tallahassee City… Rick Scott’s model: Rick Perry (James Hohmann, Politico, Jan 2015)

Today I am hoping to work on my drafts on canvas of our new quilts and wall hangings – Reflections and Moon Over Bayshore. Should prove interesting.

Day 332 – (AD 762) – 22.2 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Tropic of Capricorn On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I cycled 22.2 miles on my Schwinn 170. Update of my totals – 15,792.7 miles; 25,415.9 kilometers. Only 207.3 more miles or about 2 weeks and I will reach the 16,000 mile mark. And I think I should be bold enough I lay odds against another 4,000 miles after that?

I am headed north out of Alice Springs on Stuart Highway. At about 19 miles out of Town I passed by the Tropic of Capricorn marker that is set back 15 meters from the road. The Tropic of Capricorn (or the Southern Tropic) is one of the five major circles of latitude that mark maps of the Earth. (Thank you Wikipedia.)

I must be really, really boring. It seems that I do not qualify, as a regular Jim, for anything to be included as a study candidate in one of these those marketing and research studies.

It, most of the times, baffles me to understand that in order to qualify especially for drug research study I should be in a state or frame of reference where I am are downing and filling myself with alternative and/or competitive type medications. This seems to be the only mode that appeals to the purveyors of the marketing and research studies. This must be the frame of reference that I must exhibit in order to be included as a proficient and capable participant.

So whether I am successful at something like I am doing in a diet and physical nature which aids me to combat and control my diabetes I am excluded from a Diabetes II research study. What I am doing, which of course doesn't necessarily always work for everybody, but as I am not taking any medication for my diabetes and as it appears that I have the diabetes under control, I do not qualify as a research candidate because I ain't sick enough or should I say I don't have enough chemicals coursing through the arteries and veins of my body.

Yes I understand, and I am not that naïve, to believe that there is not an enforced skewing of market research studies.  But does it make sense to not to err in favor of the product? Guess it’s all about the bass… line and income projections.

There’s something weird happening at Blogger and I’m not sure what. Up until the day before yesterday Jim’s Trek had an average of 75.33 Pageviews over 810 posts. That’s about 75 views a day. But yesterday Jim’s Trek, this weird and off-the-wall blog about pedaling a Schwinn Fitness cycle had in one day 465 Pageviews. Huh?

We have 99% completed our new TBAJ quilt and wall hanging.  The canvas for our new Reflection quilt and wall hanging has been prepped.  And work is in progress for the construction of the canvas for our new queen size quilt, Moon Over Bayshore.  Follow our updates at Quilts SB.  Also there is a possibility of two more commissions.

Day 331 – (AD 761) – 21.6 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – The Gap On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

This morning I pedaled 21.6 miles on my Schwinn 170. I had meant to cycle the complete 23 miles but I plumb forgot as I was running, albeit rush-pedaling, (sorry about that, too many Limbaugh puns just rushed into my head) a wee bit late. Thursdays are my days to volunteer at the Family History Center near my home and assist persons with their genealogy search and research.

I have now pedaled on my two Schwinn Fitness cycles, the 150 and the 170, a total of 15,770.5 miles; 25,380.2 kilometers.

Today I am located just on the outskirts of Alice Springs in Australia at a place, not the store, called The Gap which appears to be a suburb.

I believe my next destination and goal point is about 1,500 miles away. Right now I am considering whether to take my virtual trek off the plotted road and highways. If I am going to be seeing red dirt for a while I think I would like to throw in a bit of "adventure"...so-to-speak.

And yes I do spend a lot of time searching and researching my own Smith and Robertson ancestry and genealogy. I was recently asked a question concerning a very distant relative and their history. I was able to respond with the little tad of knowledge and research that I have done about this collateral family line. My point was and is that I am much more concerned with researching my immediate blood line.

I spend more time following the Smith and Robertson blood lines than I do following the Smith and Robertson associated collateral lines. I typically research the Smith collateral lines when I am having an issue, a blocked path, with my research and search of the Smith Blood line.

If you get a chance check out my genealogy site A Genealogy Hunt.

Day 330 – (AD 760) – 22.3 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Cold Day in Tampa On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

And right now it is 57° F in Tampa. Yes, I am whining.

It is 23° C or -5° F in Oromocto, where I moved from. It is 84° F in Kingston, Jamaica where I was born and 68° F in Alice Springs, Australia in my virtual Trek.

Today’s Schwinn 170 workout – 22.3 miles. The grand total odometer now reads – 15,748.9 miles; 25,345.5 kilometers.

I am headed in a northeasterly direction on Stuart Highway.

And praise be. Google Maps appear to have updated their images, where I'm at, by 6 years. My virtual journey location is a point on the Highway that was snapped around 2 months ago, December 2014. I wonder if I did pass by the Google Map Mobile at some time when I was headed down to Uluru. Synchronicity?

I now have 23 more miles to go to get to Alice Springs.

It is either that I need new batteries for my bathroom scale or I am possibly moving in the wrong direction. The needle jumped up 1 ½ lbs to 170.6 lbs. I’ve got to get serious again. On the other hand my belly does not seem to be expanding and all-things-being-equal, which may be the good news, the increase in weight may be good weight gain.

Now don’t get me wrong, I never started this bike trek to lose weight. When I began this crazy journey on December 2, 2012 I weighed in at 170.8 lbs. At 5’ 11” I can tell you that I truly did not need to lose weight. I just needed to and I wanted to distribute the flab. My waist is down 12 inches and the definition of the muscles on my legs t’ain’t so bad. So maybe, perhaps, I have succeeded.

I have completed 63.25% of my intended pedaling goal. (I have also completed 67.95% of my Australian goal.) Wonder what I will be writing upon completion?

Day 329 – (AD 759) – 22.1 Miles – Jim's Trek Part III – Well On My Schwinn 170

Good Day,

Today I cycled 22.1 miles on my Schwinn 170. My totals: 15,726.6 miles; 25,309.6 kilometers.

Yes, even back-tracking is boring along this stretch of Stuart Highway.

Not much to write about today. I have a number of things on tap…

But I do have to examine the food that I am eating. The holiday season is now over. Period.

Tomato, Watermelon, Papaya, Mushroom, Olive Oil, Almond, Banana, and Apple Cider/Vinegar. Found this article on Health, Living & Yoga - Food Items and Exercises to Reduce Pot Belly Considerably...
